Jigging and Soft plastic set up advice

Hey seeing the topic of soft plastics today i wanna get a set up cranking purely for fishing plastics , I dunno what type of reel or rod to use , atm i have a few reels on the side maybe to get me started , although i might need heavier. I have a plueger contender and a dawai regal 4000, would these reels be fine or would an upgrade be needed ? Also any suggestions on rods as i have no clue what tpye of rod to use for soft plastics ?  not anything to expensive , good quality but not over priced. Any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers.

required here mate.

What are you targeting? A plastics setup for Bream will be alot different to a plastics setup for Dhuies.

What style of fishing, Landbased or Boat?

Budget would be handy too

No probs mate

I'd suggest something in the pe2-4 range that can handle jigs up to 150g.

I'll let the tackle junkies amoung us suggest what brands and models. Spend as much as you can afford.

Got my young bloke a eupro

Mon, 2011-04-25 00:20

Got my young bloke a eupro  salty fighter PE1-3, and put on a  3000 size daiwa Tierra reel and PE2 braid. Prety cheap ($300 all up including good quality braid, but shopped around a lot). Perfect for up to 100 g jigs and soft plastics.

Dont go too heavy, you will hate it.

Eupro salty fighter or twincraft (for plastics) are great affordable rods IMO & as mentioned above on. I run pe3 on my twincraft & this set up has knocked over some brutes up north and sambo's down here.

Personally I am stepping going to be stepping down the pe1.5 max 2 for this type of work, prefer the finesse of lighter line in the 20 - 50m water range but that combo will work well all round.

The combo JohnF has mentioned above is absolutely ideal for what you are looking at mate

Hey this rod the Eupro Salty

Mon, 2011-04-25 13:38

Hey this rod the Eupro Salty Fighter how much are these worth they look a very decent rod , and any suggestions on where i would be able to get one ?  also what is the length of this rod ,are shorter rods bad for jigging ? i wish to run pe 3 on it ! enough juice to rig up something pretty decent , and a reeally good jig action.  would my reel plueger contender or dawai regal 4000 be okay or should i also upgrade the reel ? cheers

I see johnnyboi has posted a salty fighter for sale at an excellent price but that is pe2 max, that will knock over the big ones no prob and will match well to a 4000 size reel. Far as reels go can't comment on daiwa as I stick with shimano but others can help I am sure

Light jigging and soft plastic outfit.

Tue, 2011-04-26 15:03

As mentioned above, the Saltyfighter is a great rod for the price, rated to PE2 and handles upto 100gm jigs.

Another option is the Eupro Twincraft, bit more grunt, rated to PE3 and 120gm jigs. Longer as well at 6'2"

Reel wise, there are plenty of option. Try to get the best reel you can afford and spool with 20-30lb braid.

How much have you budget for??

missed out on the salty

Tue, 2011-04-26 21:19

missed out on the salty fighter johnny ofered me it to which  i stated i was interested but sold it, oh well back to the drawing boards. The salty fighter looks a great rod, this would be more then sufficient for jigging would it be able to handle 30 lb braid or is that pushing it abit? Whats the length of these rods ? I havent really looked at budget atm , I might look around for a decent reel in the 4000 size and prices . cheers

If you are keen on 30lb line

Tue, 2011-04-26 21:33

If you are keen on 30lb line then twincraft it is but fish it on a 5000 for capacity, great bit of kit for the price & then I guess budget will dictate reel. Stradic, Gosa or Twinny would be by Shimano options Daiwa fans can give theirs.

Go see Honsu mate, he will hook you up sweet

Yeh , feel a bit more

Tue, 2011-04-26 21:37

Yeh , feel a bit more confident on 30 lb braid ha . Yeh I might give honsu a visit. N then work out how much it will all cost n work from there. Im so far a Shimano fan , I have a shimano bream rod set up which is awesome. n My Shimano Torium 30 has yet to fail me in dragging up whatever is hooked on the other end. Those black tip reef sharks had no chance haha.
