I buy the boat, you pay for fuel....

If I buy the boat and maintain it, is there 3 crew who will pay for fuel and fish together on a regular basis? (this means I dont pay for fuel) Is this a fair request ? The boats a 2006, 26 ft Seaswirl Striper with fuel injected 5 liter volvo penta duoprop.....are you interested?

interesting logic!
It could work for you? I just go the split. Considering my sounder blew up last week and im looking at around 3k plus for a new one. Most of the guys i take out pay over and obove what they should pay but then theres the odd fella that doesnt.

nice looking boat with a
nice looking boat with a great drive on set up. might have to modify what i have done on mine . sounds like you have got the logic on fuel costs but it would be hard to get regular deckies to pay the fuel costs. better off getting it split even shares with everyone on boat, so if there is 2 you go 1/2 , 3 you go 1/3 and so on

Evens
Nice if you can get away with it, but inclined to go along with what Russ said and go an even split with all on board.
At one stage I had a mate and his son who loved fishing used to pay all expenses for a trip out every couple of months. His reckoning was it was still cheaper by mile that going out on a charter, we could go where ever we wanted and usually got quality fish while he didn't have the cost of buying, maintaining and licencing a boat just for himself.

Striper 2601
have a close look at retaining bolts that hold the hardtop down.
They have a lot of issues with cabins blowing off whilst towing and need to be retro fitted to avoid problems.
Thers also a really clean 2601 with a 250hp etec on Ebay.com for $45K USD if you can import.
Did it myself and saved a packet.
Nice boats...WAZ 2301 striper

Just bought a 2601 turbo
Just bought a 2601 turbo diesel myself in the states. Should be here in month or so....can't wait!!! Just remember that the trailers over there need a lot of modifying to be legal here. I ended up having the trailer taken off the price of the boat and had one made over there to Aus specs, EZ loader trailer $5800US

I'll be in it
but you will have to pick me up from Busselton Jetty. On a serious note it is not a bad idea and if it was fuel only i would think it a fair deal split 3 ways. I used to go out every so often with Dam 6230 until he selfishly moved up into the sunshine - i gave him what i thought was fair but always worried i may be short changing him paticulary when he was extra generous with his BBQ shapes. If you can find 3 regulars i think it would work.

Thanks for your comments guys. This will be my 6th boat in 20 years. First was a Bertram 20ft, then a Carribean Corsair 25ft, followed by a Regent 26 diesel flybridge, then went back to trailer boats with a Penguine 23 Ultimate, and a Trophy 2352 hardtop....now its a Seaswirl 2601....look forward to meeting and fishing with a few of ya.....

Hi mate. I would definitely climb onboard with this. I live in Madeley, so not far at all from you, plus I got heaps of spots out from hillarys, as I work on charter boats as well. Let me know if you are interested mate.

Nice looking tub!!
The Stripers are nice boats.
I think if you could get regular deckies on board it could work out well, but being a skipper of my own boat and going halves in fuel, I would feel an overwhelming obligation to produce fish if I didn't chip in.
I am very fortunate in the sense that I always fish with the same person, and although we might drink and talk crap about where we are going to fish next, we always have a plan for our next outing. We both put forward our ideas so as we aren't flogging the same grounds, and we tend to learn something new every time.
I'm sure if you can get a regular crew together it will work out great.
Good luck!!
BTW, what do you tow a boat that big with??

boat hire
think of it as a boat hire where you only have to pay for fuel and bait plus you get a skipper and you decide where you want to go and what you want to fish for...where else can ya get a deal like this???

In that case, can I
In that case, can I 'charter' your boat out in Dollie season :D
Though with other fish the problem with boat hire is that I have no idea where fish are (particularly demersals) so is good to know the skipper knows where he is going when I deckie on a boat, hehe.

Its really just an idea....
It will be interesting to see what happens.....if someone offered me the same deal i would'nt need to buy a boat.....i know a few bottom bounciing locations and like exploring....I am open to new experiences....but i love game fishing....still happy to go crabing or squidding.....the trips dont have to be expensive....the boat has a fuel flow meter, from the moment we leave the jetty you can see how much fuel you are using and have used.....when the budget runs out we go home....should be interesting...plus i want to meet some new fishos....

I have a 26ft seaswirl and with any of my crew one/two or more pay $50 each and I cover the rest if needed. As everyone knows owning a boat cost $$$ so if you dont want to pay fuel dont buy a boat.
Great to see you have brought a great boat you will love the ride it gives

Not that heavey
The boat and trailer only weighs 3400 kg so a patrol or cruiser will do the job. If the crew pays for fuel we will fish for what ever they want, but personally I like to fish for pelegics...caught a marlin once at the fads about 10 years ago.....love going to exmouth....I will put the shoe on the other foot and go on your boat and do the same deal that i am proposing.....all my fishing mates moved away or drownd or got eaten by sharks....when my last boat sank....dam those bananas ....lol....

weight
Interesting seaswirl that the rig weighs 3400 kg , add 100 /150 litres of fuel and your over the tow limit of a cruiser 3500kgs , chuck in the bananas and fishing gear and you would be closer to 3800kgs ??

Weight
Website has the boat at a shade over 2300KG, holds 600liters/500kg of fuel, trailer would be 500kg easy, thats 3300kg plus change. Load it full of gear and the trailer is overweight and so is the cruiser.
I had a look today at a 235 grady white and that sits on an aussie built 4 tonne trailer.
Twin turbo..V8 diesel..Ohh what a feeling!!

lol..would never work with my boat!
I have a 8.3lt V8 in her...lol
Also with tow weights, you need to be careful these days, as insurances are tightening up on overloaded tow capacties.
I know my Berty 25 is well over 3tons on her own ( full fuel, water, gear etc + knowing the V8 alone weighs in at 540kg with leg!) with out a trailer. Thats why she is in a pen and not on a trailer now!
