How's Floreat to Trigg lately ?
Submitted by Squidring on Sun, 2013-12-08 16:14
Hey guys, been probably a month or more since fishing the local beaches, planning to head down friday evening and use up a bunch of bait left in the freezer.
Im thinking Floreat, maybe brighton, or maybe trigg. Are there chopper tailor at the moment? Will target tailor , hope for mullas or small shark.
Do the shallow sand banks still extend out a fair way at Floreat or has the beach structure improved? Will look carefully for the right gutter of course.
Any feedback welcome. Cheers.

Floreat to Scarbs
Floreat is fairly consistent throughout in terms of structure. from Gate 15 slopes off to a couple of metres and deeper further out.
There are plenty of gutters up at Scarbs. There's a channel about 10-40m out of brighton road parallel to the beach for the length of the carpark from the drain southwards with a few outlets open to the big blue.
Weed wasn't an issue last week though the hectic westerlys and swell might have brought a bit in over the weekend.
small choppers starting to come through now though crabs and tarwhine are at scarbs in plague numbers. Snook and Herring as bycatches occasionally both of which make great bait for bigger stuff, so its worth using smaller gangs. plenty of little black tips around at the moment up to a 120cm, managing at least one per session on small fillets. A few PJs around as well, whilst annoying at any size I snagged two that went ~ 130cm a couple of weeks ago nearer to Trigg.

Excellent feedback
Thanks greyheads for the comprehensive report. Sounds promising. Brighton is the closest for me , so I think I will head down there first. One of those blacktips sounds tasty!
Cheers mate.

Floreat
Was down at Floreat last night. Got there at 7.20 and left at 9pm. Caught 7 choppers but 3 of them were undersized. They were boiling for a twenty minute period around 8pm with many fish dropped; but then I lost a rig and by the time I'd re-rigged they had moved on.
BTW - The lost rig was not due to a fish, rather worn braid because I leave my rod rigged up after I have finished, take it home a lean it against a rough rendered wall which has gradually worn the fibres away.
