We normally put in a good 10 to 12 hours by the time we get home and clean up so I guess on average we would spend about 8 or 9 hours on the water?

Even if we bag out early we still look for new ground, given the fact we love to fish, what's the point in only being out there for only an hour or so?
For us it's normally at least 8 hrs regardless.

how you fish. My old boy used to fish for the table. The day in question was 6yrs ago. 2 drifts, 4 Dhuies (from 9-18kg), 3 Nannygai and a Queenie. Not hard to do down here when there on.

Must admit i've had a couple of cracker days off Exmouth that went close to 10hrs.Tongue out

Unfortunately we can't always get it wrapped up in 4hrs, We often get all our fish in 1.5hrs, but picking that time of day when the fish are on the chew is a bit of a mystery most of the time!!

totally agree with that Steve. I guess i does depend where you are, how your fishing and what your fishing for.

Tue, 2010-09-14 18:42

fishin landbased, its not uncommon for me to fish a good solid 12+ hours. usual afternoons at the marina are about 7-8 hours, but breaming sessions are 4-5 tops. obviously overnighters being about 16ish.

LB Fishing

Tue, 2010-09-14 19:00

Metro usually 3-5 hours.

If away I'll fish for the entire duration of the leave pass...stopping only to eat, sleep and poo. :-)

In fact, if I set up the toilet in the right spot, I don't even need to stop for that. Laughing

Untill

Tue, 2010-09-14 20:30

Usually on an island trip its gentlemen's hours for take off,   0700-0800, an hour and 20 minutes drive then as soon as the first hint of the sea breeze its "on the way home and don't spare the horses James" On average one would be on the way home round 1100-1300 with a good feed.

Go back many years before the missus and kids and it wasn't out of the ordinary on a long weekend to leave Bunbury straight after work on Friday and drive through to Quobba and fish through till lunch on Sunday, take fish in to Carnarvon for freezing and back to Quobba, catch a bit of sleep then fish through till lunch on Monday, pick up frozen fish and refuel for the drive home. Next stop for the old Valiant ute was Dongara for a full tank and then straight through to Perth and down thr freeway [started at Whitfords ave] over Canning bridge and down the Old Coast road and home about 0200 Tuesday morning. After a shower and sleep off to work at 0700.

Not young, dumb and full of c#m any more   thank God!!!

our usual stint on the water

Tue, 2010-09-14 22:28

our usual stint on the water would be around 10 hours . if weather and time permits we would spend more time out there. never less than 5 hours. In my younger days myself and a few mates would fish from Friday around 6pm till around 6 pm Sunday night, usually getting about 2 hours of sleep on Saturday night

When barra fishin a 2 day trip may only get 2 hours sleep, so probably 5:30 am till 7pm the next day or earlier if you running out of beer. Then home for a shower to wash off all the mud/sunscreen/insect repellant

Wed, 2010-09-15 09:48

would be about 4 years ago ,left perth at midnight ,launched at 2 rocks by 2am hit direction bank around 3.00 am  finished carton of bulliet bourbon by sunrise then had to wait till 8.00pm that night before we were sober enough to drive back to the ramp , ended up getting back home round 1.00am  so that was about 25 hours , bagged out in the first 1.5 hours after sun but was to drunk to drive. think that was the last time i have had a drink while out fishing

till i'm in trouble with the wife and her second call along the lines... "where F are you????"...lol

but basicly a 5~8hr day on the water is the norm for me,
back in SAFFA land cause we went much deeper and further out, it was not unusual to do 14~16hrs out... leave port at 3am and back to port by 9~10pm that night!!!

Normally hit the water at 5am and home by ten. Catch enough to eat...have some fun with jigs/plastics... then head home.

It takes to much out of you fishing long hours..and if i want to fish 3 or 4 days in a row, short days are good.
