Not sure if its just my old pc (unable to even watch any of the fishwrecked movies) or if this happens to all but whenever i click a link on the site it takes me away from fishwrecked, This doesnt happen on othersites like hotbite. Only thing i can think of that may help keep people were you want them (here).

Codec's
You need Codec's !, download Media Player Classic it has a ton of codec's with in the application it self.
Play's DVD and most video formats,
http://www.divx-digest.com/software/media_player_classic.html
will run on XP as well.

What Links are you clicking on?
Hi L4M,
What links are taking you away from the site????
Other than the "Links" section everything else should keep you here.

Ban links????
I'm not trying to be a smart arse or anything but if you click on a hyperlink, I'm not sure where else you expect it to take you, other than the site it is linked to.
L4M are you suggesting Adam bans posting helpful links such as TT's????
Cheers

Split Forum / Image section under recent posts
G'Day Adam,
One area that would improve browsing for me and potentially increase the discussion on the forums is to separate the new image posts from the forum topics. The reason I say this is because I generally surf the site using the recent posts link and look at anything that has been posted and if it interests me I will post a comment, however when some of us (myself included) post a heap of pics after a trip it pushes all the forum topics off the front page and I think therefore out of my line of sight. I may have something more to add to a particular topic, but because it has drifted of to page 2 it evades my gaze and limits my contributions (some may say that's a good thing). So is there a way to maybe have a Forum collumn and an Images collumn under the recent posts section?
I would be interested if anyone else sees that as being beneficial. I think Terry F would, given his posts drift off the page pretty quickly after a weekend of good fishing.
Cheers

i think he means if hes on
i think he means if hes on latest content then he clicks on a topic, it goes to that topic and leaves latest content page.
i would like it so that if you click on a topic it opens it in a new tab so you can open all the threads you want to read at once and then go read em, but still making it so the main page is open.
Fishing and catching are two different things. But i want to learn how to catch.

Now I understand
L4M I apologise for misinterpreting your first post. Yep a new window would be pretty good and would allow you to check info from the linked site and comment about it in your forum replies without having to reload each site as you swap between them.

Problem
I think the problem started with our initial response template, which used different formats for responses. Since then we managed to get the text and avatars looking good, but lost the effectiveness of signatures, smilies and links to new windows. I'll have a look through some of the options to see if it can't be changed.

Uploading documents
Hi Adam,
Do you think we could start a Fishing Conservation forum. Nothing one-sided, just a place we can keep in touch with things going on etc - perhaps some people would be interested. Such as discussions on individual proposed management plans. I guess this all fits under the Political and Environmental issues heading, but is a focus area.
It would be cool if we could upload papers, Indicative Management Plans etc (though i guess you can get them from the DEC website?) etc as PDFs. Then everyone can have access to them. Lots of stuff isnt available on the net, or only abstracts are, etc, etc...

I think that is a feature of phpBB which is the forum software they are using. All links posted in the phpBB forum open up in a new window by default when they are clicked on. Adam uses Drupal which is different.

Yeah I agree with that Andy. I use the Latest Content feature for just about all my browsing on fishwrecked as I find it is the easiest way to keep up to date however, I find it frustrating when heaps of new images are posted and it pushes all the hot topics onto the next page and consequently miss quite a bit.

Test
Ok, heres a test with smileys etc, I'm not sure how it will go with some of the site coding, which is the main reason I took it off in the first place. If it causes too many problems, then I will try and find another way to get them on.

To enable these options, underneath the comment box there is a thing which says:
enable rich-text
If you are using firefox, goto Tools-> Options -> and click on the Block Popup Windows (allows the smiley box to appear)

With the enable rich-text dialog box at the top of the comment box, it only leaves u with 1 line (visible) to enter ur fishing and gear info, the box needs to be increased in size if possible

Good idea Nealez, I might look into doing something like that after we get the fishwreckapedia moving along a bit. I like it!
As for the smileys, there are 16 to choose from, are you seeing all of those Jay?
Unfortunately theres not much I can do about the one line squid, I will try and suss it out, but it may need coding to change, which I'm not sure if I'm able to do.

4x4's
Alot of us have 4x4's to get to our favourite fishing spots etc, how about an offroad/camping section were people on big trips can blog their progress for all to see and comment but is stays in one area (for a specified time or something)? Keep 4X4 info there etc.
Ive got a traveling holiday coming up where I'll be on the road for maybe 2 months (I'd like to blog it on the site for my family and friends to see).

Maybe have a bitch board where people with short person syndrome or a superiority complex can carry on about how fantastic they are while running everyone else down.
Nah, on second thoughts lets keep this as a great forum where respect for the fish and one another is foremost in our minds.

A fishing log
Hi Adam, everyone posts pictures of there fish on the site, I am pretty sure that they all know how long, wide, heavy and high the fish they caught are. How about a fish logging system where they guys can enter the catch type, size, weight etc. You already have a library section to identify fish. Having a brag bord would compliment that and you can also feed the info back to fisheries as to what the FW guys catch, How good will that go down with them. Just my thoughts.

Hi Adam,Just putting it out
Hi Adam,
Just putting it out there to see if there was any interest but i've been having a look through the forum and was thinking that a 'Fitout/re-build' section would be cool.
By this i mean a section where people could upload their threads about putting in floors in their tinnys, or replacing a floor in a fibreglass boat, or even how they've fitted out their new boat. Could also be a good place to post up about trailer re-builds etc.....
The only reason i mention this is because i've come across so many stray threads which have some really good pictures of boat fitouts or trailer re-builds which could be a wealth of knowledge and ideas for others (such as myself, hehe)
So yea, just a thought
Thanks, Steve

1) an iphone freindly app (cost dependant) is a great idea...
2) not sure what happened to what happend tp reeltime (but can guess...), but resurrecting it would be a great idea. Am sure a fair few of us have enough literacy skills and photos/ stories to provide content to keep it afloat in some capacity... thats the ex english and IT teacher/ journo come FIFO worker in me speaking, would be happy to lend a hand, as Im sure many others would...

Reeltime
Guys, Reeltime took a huge amount of time to develop and then run each issue. The problem wasn't so much the time itself (I loved it), just trying to justify the time versus cost to keep it running. I found myself neglecting my day job (being self employed) which has rather serious implications for the family dinner table.
Had we been able to secure regular advertising to a reasonable dollar value for me to justify the time cost then it would have kept going. Problem was during the GFC and with loads of fishing mags in competition for advertising dollars it meant getting sponsors was very difficult and whilst I tried several times to outsource / delegate the sourcing of sponsors / advertisers it just didn't happen and unfortunately I didn't have the time to do both. So in the end I had to shelve the mag and get back to putting food on th etable for the family.
I'd love to resurect the mag one day but only on the basis that someone else organised all the sponsorship and allowed me to simply focus on the compilation of the mag.
Cheers

How about some sticky's
How about some sticky's covering the often asked questions in each catagory like :-
latest size and bag limits/ links to the necessary sites
Any of the other questions that arise again and again ad nauseum , could be referred quickly
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Boat Reviews
How about a section for boat reviews? Its a topic that seems to come up fairly regularly.
These could be sorted by make, model size etc, and people could enter a review of their boat, or boats they have been on.
Gues the same could be said for tackle reviews, electronic reviews etc...

Android
OK to have an i-phone app but what about us non sheep that don't have an i-phone . Then you would have to do an andriod app as well to be fair.

I have an android phone and FW works fine on it, not sure what I'm missing, just bookmark it to your frontpage, press button and easy. What difference does an app do?
