dicey, from my experiences fishing with LIGHT LINE for bream around structure, i have found that tides do not have an adverse effect on their activity. i have caught big and small bream on ever part of the tide you can think of. more depends on air pressure, imo. approx 1024 Ha on the barometer os when ive caught my biggest, and the most amounts of them. food for thought hey
When i fish for bream i fish from the shore wherever there is tree cover or bushes around, dont know about the barometer thing, but i do know there is alot of bream when the night is warm and there is a crapload of bugs flying around and on still nights you can hear bulk fish splashes coming from everywhere, i happen to like high tide because i can cast where the water drops deeper like 2.5ft of water, all the bigs ones i have ever got are just when the sun goes down, when its really dark alot of small ones come out.
and im sure addict duffman will back me up in saying there tides do not play a big role as long as your there early and i persume latish (setting sun). ive actually noticed a lowish tide better. i used to fish the tides there and would only catch 1 or 2 but i got told to not worry bout the tides there and have been catching alot of fish EARLY though. but theres some big buggers there but thats half the fun
I never been to garrett bridge, will go there one day, but the question is down at the bridge how fast does the water flow in that area, for sure its not as fast as canning or freo harbour type of flow?
I used to fish fast flowing waters for bream, big waste of time although there were some nice onces over 30cm, now i just use mainline mono 8-10lb to the hook the proper weird shape one for bream fishing if i need abit of distance i put the tiniest split shot on, chuck it out leave alot of slack put the rod in the holder and watch the slack line, used to have 3 rods going all at once, sometimes the spot i fish can barely keep up with the amount of hook ups in applecross, mt pleasant area, claremont is another killer place.
Nah i dont fish there but that whole stretch of road produces nice size bream, of course there use to be less blowies about, thats why sunset is good for them since blowies are around, all the 40+cm size ones i caught is further up near the small straight jetty, i can say all the times i fished there over 10 years only seen like 4-5 people fish there.
were's the skill in that mate? cast out and leave it there. a well placed cast with an unweighted prawn along structure, keeping contact with the line is the way to go. you say that fast flowing waters for bream is a waste of time? how come the canning bridge has been firing for 35+cm blackies in the last week then? you cant get much faster water movement anywhere else (bar Freo Traf Bridge). just curious, how long ago did you have 3 rods at once?
probaly about 3 yrs ago, blackbream was one of the main fish i fish for when i started fishing and fished them for at least 15yrs, and gave up a couple years back, i fished under canning bridge for over 5 years underneath and sometimes be there for more then 12hrs, back then lures wasnt thought of to fish bream, it was later on decided to fish other areas and try different rigs that i discovered what was the best way, and trust me keeping contact with tight line is the fastest way to lose the bait, you have to let them take a few metres of line and then strike, you fish how you fish and i fish how i fish.
yeh me and mate did some fishing downstream near McCallum Park in Victoria park. The weather made it shit and my lack of confidence in lures resulted in no bream.
Made a dash to old faithful garrett fish for half an hour and teh blowies where there the first time ive seen em for 12 weeks thats gives the bream no chance so went home empty handed
if you can give it anotehr coupla days with little rain to let teh water settle and the blowies piss off
