FWA T708 - Duke Of New Orleans : ESPERANCE
Submitted by Dreamweaver on Mon, 2007-12-31 08:01
Well didn't miss the program yesterday ![](/modules/tinymce/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif)
It was good to see Nick and Jacko fishing in my water - even if it was a few clicks east.
Plenty of redies (albeit) small there. (Should have consulted me if they wanted BIG queenies
)
Interestingly, (or not, depending upon your point of view
) the online FWA fact sheet shows the rod as a Pen Sports 15-24, standup and the reels as Penn GLD30 2sp & Formula 10kg @ speed.
Not sure on the reels (couldn't get a good look at them and FTA quality is not the best) - but the rods, to me, didn't look anthing like a Sports 15-24 - look more like Shimano T-Curve DJO 200 or even Jigrex - more leaning towards 200s because of the curve under load. Could the reels have been Toriums or Tyrnos?
What do you think?
Whilst they commented on the rods, there was no definitative tackle talk on the anything but their patnostra set up up with the looped standouts on the droppers.
Oh, and HOW many times was there comment on the seagrass bed, sand paches? We lost count!![](/modules/tinymce/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif)

Thanks Hoju - thought so - would be nice if the fact sheets had facts - just a wild idea
And the Rods? I'd still pick em for T-Curve DJO 200s?
Agreed on the squid section - would have been better to have the whole program on Esperance I reckon with more detials on gear maybe.
But otherwise, yes; a better show.
Interesting that the boat was anti-fauled though (very big) trailored.
BTW Honsu which would you rate higher? - the Torium 20 or the Saltist 30 TH? - both weigh in at about the same (645 vs 650).

lol.....Hoju or
lol.....Hoju or Honsu....JK
they are indeed T-Curve Deep Jig 200s with Torium 20 reels.
Of the Saltist and Torium which I would rate higher?? Neither, becoz they both setup the same, running similar drag capacity but I do prefer the more fisherman friendly knob of the Daiwa but the Shimano is available in larger sizes than the Daiwa, whereas Daiwas are available in both high and low gear ratios.
Personally I would probably go the Saltist becoz I owned one and Im a Daiwa fan.

Oops LOL
Oops LOL - sorry about that Honsu (and Hojo) (too many Christmas Ho Ho Hos - got you guys confused![](/modules/tinymce/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-tongue-out.gif)
)
Thanks HONSU for the correct call on both rod and reel.!
So what would be your preference as an OH on the 200 ? (Appreciate that these would, if I'm right, be only good for jigs up to 200? - too light for anything above?)

Didn't really like the show,
Didn't really like the show, dropping baits in deep water is not really my kind of thing but they did get some good fish out of it which was good.

Hi Ya,
Saw the show and I thought they said the rods were customs. At least I tought they mentioned the rod had been built by a specific person. Can't remember the name though.
Cheers.

Ian Miller
Ody Ian Miller does a lot of colaborative work with Shimano - the T Curve range (of which the 200 Deep Jig Overhead (Trigger) is one of them) - is just one spin off.
. (I can see the caption now - a Big Mac - with wise on the side please!
)
I have a 200 DJO myself, so spotted them pretty easily - also the curve when the rod was under load looked very familiar.
Yeah Jay, Ryan was the best presenter (suck suck :) ) but still enjoy the scenery - I reckon Andy Mac and Big John would do well in front of the camera
Actually Jay, they weren't in that deep a water - less than 50m I recall. Still like seeing a WA Fishing show an day. (Don't mind most others of course)

Cough Cough!!
(Knowing my ugly mug, most would agree)
Too many critics in this world to put it all on the line like these guys do. Hats off to Ryan and crew who have put it out there, knowing they are going to get their knockers for sure, no matter what they say or do. Takes guts to stand in front of a camera like that.
Besides I'm a one trick pony mate. The dhuies follow me around like blowies.
I watched a bit of the show and must say Jacko was unusually subdued
Cheers

He He True
He He True Jay - but then I suppose if I had puddle creeks full of horse jacks, blue bones and other denisens of the (not) deep - I'd paddle at the shallow end too
(I'm just jealous)
Mind you, my PB pinky came out of let than 5m of water.

Actually
Actually Jay, it didn't mate suprisingly enough - that was many years ago and we didn't have any scales on board - but it wouldn't fit in the (then boat) kill tank. I would estimate about 8kg+ based on others I've since caught and weighed.

Pound for pound, I reckon southern queenies (blue morwhong) fight pretty tough. Not (nothing) like a good sambo though. Yeeharrr!

Too Modest
You are so right though Andy about the critics - always people around to pull people down - without respecting what they put on the line (pardon the pun)! So, yes, agreed HATS off to them!
And as for THAT Dhui comment - when you coming down here on MY deck
I agree, Jacko did seem somewhat subdued.

Did notice they spent a lot
Did notice they spent a lot of time talking about letting the fish "gas off" then throughout the program they brought up a Black but with it's swim bladder half out of it's mouth and a pinky with it's bladder visible aswell.

Yeah
Yeah I noticed that too Dean - I don't think it was Barratrauma - I think it was the shock of seeing Jacko's mug over the gunnels when the fish broke the surface![](/modules/tinymce/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-tongue-out.gif)
