Furuno fcv620 settings

Hi guys well I just bought a boat with a furuno fcv620 on it and I can't work out the settings? Do these sounders show a nice bottom outline? Any help or screen shots would be great. Otherwise is it worth forking out for something like the simrad nss8

FCV620 is a great sounder!
FCV620 is a great sounder! Even in full auto on fishing setting it should be preety good. If not, look at the tranny installation, this is likely to be the issue, not the Furuno. If transom mount, check depth (front endge should be 5 mm below the hull) and angle (back of tranny should be 5 mm lower than front to stop caviation at speed).

Ok we'll that may sort my other issue. It's a 600w thru hull and I noticed the other day sitting in about a foot of water was reading 2.5m deep

It a ft of water, it's not
It a ft of water, it's not unusual to get weird readings.....so that may not be an issue. Test it in 5 m plus at standstill before you throw the tranny in the bin. If ok at standstill but no good when going plus 10 knots then it is the tranny install that is no good.
What model thru hull is it?

FCV620 manual & manual setting tips

The links above should offer some assistance for tuning.
Also Ryan Thripthrop offered these basic tips to get me started and they are working well for me on my FCV627
With the Furuno 627 use these settings; (same same for the 620)
Everything manual
Colour erase 15%
Clutter 10%
TVG - Med
Black - Hue background
Gain 5.0 HF
Gain 3.5 LF

Ok we'll thought I would
Ok we'll thought I would post back again. Tried some of those settings a bit better. But I noticed with a bit of swell the sounder is reading whitle lines in between readings at a bit of pace. I can't actually get a good reading at say 10 knots very frustrating. The transducer is a furuno I think? Thru hull model number 520-5psd so I can't actually move it. Anyone had this problem and could give me some advice thanks
