Friday's Dive at Bouvard Reef

Hi all

Went for a dive last Friday with one of my regular dive buddies. Headed down to the Bouvards and found the visibility was amazing...from the boat we could clearly see the bottom at 12m.

Once in the water, there was some sediment and there was some undercurrent, as you'll see in the movie.

This was filmed with my new Canon IXUS 115HS compact digital inside an Ikelite housing, which replaced the Sea & Sea that I lost a couple of weeks ago. Pretty happy with it so far, still learning to use all the controls while under water.

Still trying to work out how to compile and upload to YouTube...ie, video quality, etc. so any help would be greatly appreciated.

What privacy settings do you guys use...I've left this as 'Public' which is the recommended option, but I don't see too many YouTube clips with the orange banner advising that this is public.

Hope you enjoy it.

3:40 fish

Mon, 2012-01-30 11:21

Hi guys

thanks for your comments.

Paul, I spent most of yesterday getting the clip stitched together and uploaded to YouTube....had some dramas with my Windows Movie Maker...all sorted now. Computer crashed 3 times while trying to save the movie...don't you hate that

The fish at 3:40 is a sweetlip. Nice to look at but don't taste that nice...caught one at Jurien last Easter and we cooked it in foil on the bbq but it wasn't as nice as the baldies we caught.

Hey meteorite, those dhuies were in 8m of water but I left the speargun in the boat....took it on the first dive in 13m and didn't see anything! We've marked the spot for a return trip soon.

That sambo was swimming around us for at least 5 minutes.

Thats a bloody fantastic video....make some more!!!!!!!!!!!! Guy at the fish shop said to me one day, you would be surprised at what lives in 8 to 15 meters of water. You dont have to go all that far for good fish sometimes.

Thanks for your comments and feedback.

I've always been interested in underwater photography but only now have I really started to take it seriously....wer're usually too busy trying to get a feed of crays, etc. that there's no air left for a photo session.

I was surprised by the amount of fish in relatively shallow water, but it's a whole ecosystem that's built around any sort of rocky/weedy/limestone outcrop....so the natural order of tiny fish, small fish and bigger ones all existing together, makes for great photo/movie opportunities.

Looking forward to some calm weather soon so we can dive again...fingers crossed for this weekend.
