fishing charter for landlubbers
Hey folks.
I was just wondering if you know of any fishing charters out there which would suit a land lubber like myself. I've tried deep sea fishing several times and each trip ended with me passed out in the cabin due to terrible seasickness. I've tried the tablets and all the other tricks but I just can't handle it. So are there fishing charters out there who can take you to calmer waters where there are lots of fish or are the 2 mutually exclusive?
I only ask because I was watching a show on Foxtel late on Saturday night (Hook, Line and Sinker) and they were on a boat on some REALLY calm water and there were tuna everywhere, even jumping out of the water. It could've been an estruary but it definitely looked like the ocean.
I thought I would give up the fishing charter thing until I saw that and thought maybe we have similar places here?
Cheers folks.

Not sure about charter
Not sure about charter companies but you might be able to get someone to take you out in the sound chasing pinkies on a calm day? Even then, there's still a chance of getting sick. That's real bad luck that you get so sick.

Ginger tablets ?
Ginger
Ginger (
Zingiber officinale) is one of the more popular natural remedies for motion sickness. It has been used for centuries in cooking and medicinally. The Food and Drug Administration classifies ginger as "generally recognized as safe".
Studies conducted so far suggest that it may help reduce motion sickness, but it doesn't appear to be help if the nausea is severe.
For example, one study involving 1,489 people on a ship compared ginger to medications and found that ginger was as effective as the medications for motion sickness.
A Swedish study involving 79 naval cadets found that one gram of ginger could reduce vomiting and cold sweats. There was no significant reduction in nausea or vertigo.
Two small studies, including one funded by NASA, found that ginger was not more effective than placebo at reducing simulated motion sickness. Larger, well-designed studies are needed before we can conclude that ginger is effective for motion sickness.
Ginger should not be used within two weeks before or after surgery or by people taking "blood-thinning" medication such as warfarin (Coumadin) because it may interfere with blood clotting and prolong bleeding time. In addition, some sources say there is not enough information about the safety of ginger in pregnant women, saying that ginger inhibits an enzyme called thromboxane synthetase and may possibly influence sex steroid differentiation in the fetal brain. Studies have not confirmed this.

Ginger
Agree with all the comments on ginger. Another bit is to avoid milk, cheese etc on the day of the trip

Cheers for the cure
Cheers for the cure suggestions but I'm not sure if I'm game enough to try them. If it backfires, I've got 5-8 hours of agony ahead of me
Will keep them in mind if I do ever try and roll the dice again though
63F100 are you saying Shikari go out in calm waters?

my wife is a chronic
my wife is a chronic sufferer as well. she takes 2 travacalm original half hour before we hit the water and just has a bit of toast before taking them. while out there just sip away on water, (not fizzy drinks) and eat things like dry biscuits or crisps.. my mother gets crook on the ferry going from south perth to the city and they work for her as well.
good luck with a cure and hope you get out there and have a chance to get a fish to remember

Its a long time since I have had a Techni-colour yawn at sea.
I've only been on one fishing charter here, and at least 1/3 of the passengers were in the cabin ill. If its any help, get out in a private boat, so you can come in when the problem starts. Don't go inside an enclosed cabin, be out on deck with plenty of fresh air. Look at the horizon, not close in on the boat. Dont think sea sickness, concentrate on something, i,e learning how to use the echo sounder or something. I have never taken tablets etc so can't coment on them. But you need to get sea time to get over it. And yes dont sit next to the berly bucket!

Al has been working on some
Al has been working on some Pinkies in close. Worth giving him a call, the day we went out it was flat as a tack on the pinkies and still pretty lumpy out wide.
Sorry I cant give you more info on where we were fishing as I'm from the east coast and I just rely on Al to put us on fish.
give him a buzz 0412131958.
Cheers
