Went to Rotto on Tuesday landed six Dufish two keepers two nice black ass. Also hooked monster YTK epic battle only to lose fish being to enthousiastic trying to net to early. Then every expletive known to man came oiut of my mouth . I estimate 1500 TO 1800 long. Only had half a mulie left and thought may as well try again and to my delight instant hook up . Played only a few minutes and then got busted off on reef. Next time i will try to take more time to wear out the fish before trying to net. Anybody have any idea how much a fish like that would way? Have lost other YTK before but this would have been a fish of a lifetime.

Try this website
I normally consult this website to estimate the weight of fish. http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/recreational/saltwater/weigh
Still looking for one for Dhufish though.

long leeder ?
Part of the problem was knott failure. I hooked the the fish on a double snelled rig with skirt and a small sinker. Mulie floated down the burly trail. The end hook came off. They are the most powerfull fish i ahave ever had the pleasure to fight. We were only in shallow water about 10 to 15m of broken ground . I had a two metre long leader on the first hook up wilth a bimini and a double uni knott. You guys know any rigs that might help me land this fish next time?

It tests ya
yep I agree , all keen fishos have a story, this is mine
Being fishing in Wa since I was 5 (1970) , really keenly since I got my drivers lic ( around 1982)
all over the state , from boats for years , but mainly from the shore.
Even from boats I really have never had much success on big pinks ( above 700mm say) until last ,last year (2013)
it was the last day of the dermersal ban , but we fished for tailor from the shore at two rocks , during a howling southwester.
I hooked and played for about 15 minutes what felt like a bloody big eagle ray , but with a odd head shake now and then.( should have twigged!)
3 times I almost had it up and over the reef , and finally on the fourth go , a metre snapper , with a huge nose/lumpy head appeared
on the reef flat,( all at once I thought ban on , thats cool , just need my pic with it and let go my fish of a lifetime) when the gang hooks were spat out
and riding the surge seaward , the old man snap disappeared, and slipped back into the briney , ripping my dreams away, after 30 years of trying.
I really did feel cheated that day , and the drive home was in unusual silence with my caring daughter , whom felt the old mans pain.
This passes of course and weeks later , you feel like a silly bugger for being so upset about a fish, but hey thats fishing , and without that passion , we would
just give up , instead of toughing it out , till the next time you land a monster.
