Fillet Conversion
Submitted by Pete D on Thu, 2011-09-15 09:43
Pic is of the 33.5Kg Bass Grouper I caught with Ryan TT just before filleting.

10.6 Kg of prime fillet was the result, so 31% conversion. This could have been more if I took the cheeks and wings. I have confirmed with fisheries that you can do this without compromising the frame for research. Lesson for next time.
Fisheries also advised that a 20-50kg BG would be 30-70 years old.
Cheers Pete

I guess 31% isn't too bad
I guess 31% isn't too bad considering how big their head is and that for left the wings. I got one that would've gone maybe 15kg and the wings off that were pretty heavy, at least enough to feed 2 big blokes.
Zoe looks happy with "her" catch

30% return is about average
30% return is about average for all demersals as opposed to Mackerel which are a whopping 85% return, now I'm not saying Macks are no good cos I eat plenty of 'm but I sure do wish they tasted like a demersal. :-D
