Industrial plans for Ningaloo’s Nursery are even worse than we thought, and certainly worse than the developers have been letting on. Heavy-engineering giant Subsea 7 claims there’ll be ‘negligible impact’ to seabed habitats in Exmouth Gulf if their plan to launch massive oil and gas pipes gets the go ahead from the WA government.

But their latest revised plan, released on Friday, shows that there’ll be far more seabed disturbance and even more land clearing than previously admitted. Disturbance from towing pipes through Ningaloo’s Nursery has now been revised upwards by 1464 hectares, and land clearing by another 7 hectares.

These last minute changes essentially reveal a new project with heavier impacts, and it should be reassessed from scratch.

With new science showing the impacts heavy shipping and industrial disturbance will have on marine mammals in the Gulf, the EPA should reject this proposal completely.

The public has only 7 days to make submissions to the EPA about these last minute changes, and with WA’s Labor Day long weekend falling during this period there’s no time to lose if you want to comment.

If you are concerned about this new proposal go to the link below, ask for it to be ASSESSED at highest level of PUBLIC ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW, and ask the EPA to start this assessment again and reject this proposal because its environmental impacts are totally unacceptable.

https://consultation.epa.wa.gov.au/…/le…/consultation/intro/

Submissions close March 9. (Note, this comment process is about changes to Subsea 7’s plans. The full environmental review comes later.)

So a travel path for piping

Tue, 2019-03-05 17:45

So a travel path for piping and infasuructure to be moved through the area.  Towed subsea through an area already trawled by prawn fisherman.

Would be curious what damage could be caused

Conflicted

Tue, 2019-03-05 20:24

I love Exxy and lived there for 6 years, now in karratha and have worked in o&g for 6 years too. I dont feel its that risky and is less impact than the trawlers, although a bit of an eyesore for that one area at Heron point. Vessels are already in the gulf and laying of the subsea pipe isnt an issue. Really torn on this one, id love a good paying job back in exxy though... one things for sure, theyd need to fix the minilya to exxy road!! hmm

What project is this for? Is

 What project is this for?

Is this domestic gas supply?

Why haven't I heard of this?

Oh and quad, I'm not sure where you are going with Subsea 7?

They are a contractor not a producer so they would be involved in this working for someone else

Plain and simple

Thu, 2019-03-07 08:21

I just copyed the article , never wrote it , but thought it would be food for thought for a group whom have a vested interest in the area.

And I thought the point about only 7 days to comment , including a public holiday was a good one.

These type of things always have two or more sides, jobs, wealth , enviroment, land and sea rights and on the ground users and communitys.

As can be seeen by some of the states decisions in the past , big business seems to carry a bigger stick compared to the public interest ,

and the old saying about getting what you deserve rings true , If people turn off and dont question whats being done , esp around that ningaloo area

then we can only blame ourselves when we get locked out of area due to industry or have a reduction in enjoying that area , in whatever form that is,

fishing , whale watching , etc etc.

Heres further reading on the project.

The reality is that we are

The reality is that we are still oil dependent. After working offshore for a short period, and seeing the amount of life around the facilities, my feelings are mixed.

 Yep agree swompa.

Fark if you wanna listen to the public going ham about a proposed offshore project then there are no screams louder than those on social media for the Norwegian company Equinor drilling in the G.A.B

Nopsema no doubt do a lot

Fri, 2019-03-08 04:32

Nopsema no doubt do a lot right Andy but I still feel like big business comes over the top of em.

When the Montara fuck up happened with PTTP and Macondo ( BP/Transocean) the leaking hydrocarbons were terrible but spraying the dispersant CORREXIT seemed to be equally as bad as the spill itself.

When PTTP came back once they were allowed, CORREXIT was still the dispersant of choice in their safety case.

Do a little research on that shit.

Apparently fisherman from Timor were dying as a result of using that.
