english fish and chips

For those of you who live in the Kwinana/ rockingham area and who like fish and chips AND know what the fish of the uk north sea tastes like there is an english fish and chip shop opening in the village at wellard next week, he will be selling cod, haddock hake etc imported from there also the chips will be fresh peeled and hand cut spuds not the frozen crap everybody else uses I believe he will also be selling steak and kidney puddings and those from the north of england will know them, and almost certainly mushy peas! I for 1 cant wait to get some cod in my gob! as for prices as an example I understand cod and chips will be about $15 so maybe just a little more expensive than other places but if the qaulity is there I for one will be willing to pay more I understand the owner is a pommy chef been here about 6 years (he even imprted his fryer from over there) I think he will be selling some aussie fish too.

Definitely with  you on the chips, but would rather eat something fresh and local than something that has travelled half way round the world. Also being from the northeast of Scotland I don't rate cod, has to be haddock for me!! ;) haha. Could murder a steak and kidney pudding right now!

however I think you will find this will be flown here within 24 hours of landing ( hopefully anyway)...I'll let you know how the steak puddings are! also as much as I like good quality local fish I dont think any are compareable to the deep cold water fish of europe.

when I was in Holland visitng relatives, they bought me a piece of fish called lekkibecker (apparently something like our whiting) it was very tasty seeing I don't like fish. Love how they do their chips, with mayo or satay sauce. My cousin worked in a smoking house and she brought me home a full smoked mackrel, I hate mackrel (fresh) as it tastes like fish oil but I can tell you once I started eating it, nobody got any hahahah  Smoked eel is very nice rich could only eat a little bit but do love smoked fish. Wonder if he will have smoked fish as poms love their smoked kippers.

On a side note FF, there is already a british chippy in Currambine. Goes by the name of the 'Great British Chippy', not sure on the quality though as I haven't eaten from there.

Had all the names you mentioned like cod, haddock etc and the prices to go with them.

I'm assuming so, give them a ring and find out.

I hear he is after fresh local carp to add to the menu of pom favorites, looks like a few young boys could make some pocket money over summer....

best accompaniment has to be picked onions the size of a golf ball so strong they make your eyes water. We called them face-melters.

You could have a try before you buy, they have another shop down at the shopping centre on the corner of the road that goes to Rocky hospital I think.

common problem

Tue, 2014-11-25 05:53

one common problem with your average fish and chip shops here is they open up from new and sell all good qaulity fish and build a customer base they then start to try and save money by buying cheap shit fish

and think their customers wont notice but we do....its happend a lot down this way, some chip shops shouldnt be in buisness their product is so bad

you'll have to come to my place I do a mean lambs fry and bacon casserole, Bob loved that but my favourite is lambs fry and bacon on the bbq yummo mouths watering thinking about it hahahah   Peeves me off living in the country, can't get fresh lambs fry or tripe.  Might ask the Jurien butcher if he can get some in for me.

Next time I'm down Rocko way I'll be trying the new fish and chips shop, love steak and kidney pies, used to make a meansteak/kidney cassorel, as well another of Bobs favourites.

Make a good tripe, ion and white parsley sauce, my Nana's recipe (scottish) only could make and eat when old fart was out fishing for the day hahahah he hated the smell.

My wife is a Kiwi who has lived here for 30 years - for 25 of those she bent my ears on Pippi fritters, Hapuka, Deep fried oysters - yada, yada, yada. Went over a few years ago and tried Fush and Chups at a few places. Didn't live up to the spiel. Pretty average along with the rest of the food.

Hope they're better than the last north sea fish and chips I had.....  South Queensferry, Scotland 1998.  On the pier.  Worst fish and chips I had ever tasted.  Put it down more to the inability of the cook rather than the produce being used....

Haha grass is always greener! I have a freezer full of cod and ling at the moment from a jigging trip to the Shetlands - and would swap it all for some baldie / dhuie! Had it again last night.

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.
