Squid
If the sqidding is slow it could just be that there aren't any squid there and no amount of oil is going to make any difference.

Squid have been proven to
Squid have been proven to respond to scents.. but i believe it should be up to the anglers skill, not how strong a smell he can stick on the jig

Anglers skill
Flangies, are you sensist? Why are you against scents and not vision, vibration etc. Where does the "assistance" end and an anglers skill begin. After all, alot have more to them than just a prawn shape. Before people pipe up and say how easy it is a metro squid has been through alot before you see it and on a calm crystal clear evening you won't get one with you hand line and a Razor back.

I have no problems catching
I have no problems catching any squid without Scented oils, Rave lights and vibrators. I have a jig in my range to suit any situation and I have confidence in them, which is better than any additive you could stick on.
Same applies to plastics, i still catch more on my scummy old powerbait 3" and atomic 3" or even snapbacks than any scented or lumo plastic i have ever tried.
So if i can catch squid on my jigs.. why would i believe in buying 30$ can of scent ?

Sure, but you said it should
Sure, but you said it should be up to the anglers skill and not scent. Why is scent cheating and not any of the other senses? The little scales on your powerbait are an additive. The colour is artificial, the material is artificial and there was a lot of developement put into your plastics which I'm sure you weren't involved in. So what do you call skill? Just curious to see where you draw the line?

cam, he never called it
cam, he never called it 'cheating'. i agree with james here. i cant catch decent squid for the life of me but i dont go and buy a 30 can of scent so i can! its all up to the angler to find the correct and right action and depth etc for the day/night. if you have veer used powerbaits in your life cam, you will find that the angler must impart every little bit of action on it. and if you noticed, he said 'scummy old powerbait'. to me, that means it has lost all its 'power scales' as they call them. i still catch on squidgies that smell like plastic that ive had for over a year. james is a very very good 'squidder' and if he dosnt use scents, you know there not essential, nor needed at all. just my two cents.
