Does anyone stock - Harimitsu Sumizoku squid jigs? (NOR)
Submitted by Dasho on Wed, 2009-06-24 07:40
For me, these jigs are simply the best, better than all the rest.
Unfortunately I have broken 2 of them casting into squiddy structure. Expensive squid!
Please let me know if you stock them, and I will then contact you regarding the specific colours and sizes.
I'd rather a local tackle shop make a sale before I go looking online.
Thanks D.

Why so specific dasho
I have a couple of the jigs, cant even remember which ones. Have you found the specific patterns work better.
But I am in Karratha so may be way different here.

During my squid catching
During my squid catching sessions, I have noticed that the VE-22EPM SAKURANBO size=2.5 out catches any of my other 5 'not so cheap' Jap made jigs.
I once jigged the same spot for 15mins with a Jap made size=1, then another Jap made size=3.0 with no luck, then I changed to the Harimitsu and 3 squid popped out of the woodwork instantly. It was freaky.
The solid colour(not see through) and the shiny silver belly seems to excite the squid in the dark areas I fish.
I also prefer the super sharp fine needle hooks on the Harimitsu. It never misses a hook-up. Well that's before I broke the two I have.
The only down side, the hooks are rather fragile and break if you slam them into structure like I did.

Cheers mate
I think the 2 I have is the shiny silver belly ones. Should be killing a pig up here in Karratha on the squid but for some reason havent got jack. Probably going to the wrong places.

returns!
I used to stock them in a big way, sold heaps and they caught squid. Had plenty back from customers however. The barbs were snapping and the cloth opening up from the join. The rep agreed they had issues when i called him!
When they resolve that problem i'll restock again!

I had a 3.5 size pink jig
I had a 3.5 size pink jig with the clear belly, and yes, the cloth did start to break away from the join. But that was after I smashed it into pylons a couple of times. I wouldn't get another 3.5 clear belly.
The 2.5 size cloth has been fine, seems to be glued on very well, and has survived a few head on's with a pylon.
At $25 each, don't get one if you intend to fish around snags or rocks. The barbs will snap.
But if you are on a boat, or find that special landbased spot without the potential barb snapping danger, then it will out fish any jig IMO.
I caught 19 all up last week, and 3 this week on short sessions after work, and 80% of those catches were from the Harimitsu, and I was changing the jigs often.
Then again, a different jig will out fish the other in another spot, so that's what makes fishing so addictive and expensive haha.

another option
Late notice I'm sorry but I think my local, Anglers' Spot in Willetton, has a few left at the old prices. May be worth giving them a call (9259 6118) for a couple of spares if the price is right? Mike might be able to post them out to you or something.
