Deckie for Salmon Season

Hi all

I am looking for some work in the upcoming salmon season and i would like a job as a deckie.

I have some experiance and can help with boat launching and retreiving, unhooking fish, releasing fish (if wanted) and other jobs. I am really cheap (quality work but cheap price). I have pliers and gloves and all that. pm me if needed!!

Thanks

Tommyqueenfish

Working on a salmon team can be bloody hard work, long hours, getting wet, covered in milt and the other side of the coin, sitting on your bum for what could be days or weeks on end waiting for the schools to come through. AND in your case, living in the metro area it isn't going to happen because as of this coming season I believe Geographe  bay is closed to the pros, so that means Smiths beach is going to be the most northern beach they can net on.

For the two teams based in Bunbury it means getting up at least two hour before dawn and driving some 90-140km to the beach to arrive before first light and if the fish come late in the day you are not going to get any sleep by the time they have cleaned the net, stacked fish on to utes and trailers, driven home, rack the fish up and place them in the freezer , have a shower, feed and think about sleep in what little time there is to get some.

yeah no such thing as unhooking Salmon for Pro fisherman .. its all nets mate .. tons and tons of fish .. you might as well go bicklaying .. same sort of labour involved and better pay.

Salmon season deckie?

Wed, 2010-11-10 23:44

Tommy are you looking for deckie job on Pro or Recreational salmon fishing trips? Heading down to Busselton for a week next Easter and would love to have someone onboard with the following criteria....

"I have some experiance and can help with boat launching and retreiving, unhooking fish, releasing fish (if wanted) and other jobs".

If you can find accommodation you are welcome for a spot on our boat. But the criteria would also have to include washing the boat and cleaning the catch.

All jokes aside... if you can get down there you are welcome to come out with us. Only condition is you have to supply your own gear.

Tommy might need to clarify what he means. I can't imagine anyone's going to pay someone to be a deckie on a rec boat?

Depends where you go!!!

Wed, 2010-11-17 20:23

Sammy it all depends where you go and what you want to target. Can get anything from sand whiting to dhuies including kg whiting, herring, skippy big and small, salmon at the right time of year, wrasse (I seem to find them), snapper and many more.

And if you come out with me you will definately catch a ray or two and banjo's.

Others, dependant on time of year, could include bonito, tailor etc.

And squid.!!

No doubt some of the locals from down that way will add to the list for your info!
