Deckie avail - w/e & can do some Wed & Fri. Have own gear, RFBL, Skippers Ticket

Hi all,

I'm an experienced freshwater fisher and boater but still learning the ropes in the big blue and I'm looking for any deckie spots to get out there and catch some decent fish (I don't mind the herring but would like a shot at something more impressive). I'm no newbie, done a lot of fishing and caught lots of saltwater fish off charters etc, but still learning the 'where, when and with what' of sea fishing off Perth.

I live in Tapping (NOR, near Joondalup) so ideally looking at going out of Hillarys, Ocean Reef, Mindarie or Two Rocks. Would be great if I could find someone local for regular trips. I'm available most weekends and often during the week on Wed & Fri. Ideally looking for someone careful and/or experienced to go out with. If you like to head out to the continental shelf in your 3m tinny in a 5m swell whilst fired up on Jim Beam, then I'm probably not your man.

Happy to pay reasonable deckie costs (share of fuel, bait, ice etc) as well as do my share of the work (launching, fish cleaning, boat cleaning etc)

Have enough of my own gear and tackle to adequately handle most situations.

Have my own PFDs, offshore flares and  a portable fishfinder if needed

Have a Recreational Skippers Ticket (I had an inflatable with 25hp but sold it recently, have driven boats on and off most of my life)

Have a RFBL so can catch my own bag limit (with any luck)

Have a couple of sea-going fishing Kayaks, so could reciprocate if you are into kayak fishing (very low fuel costs - 5 weeta-bix will get you out to 3-mile and back )

Probably only fair to mention that I have occasionally suffered from a bit of techni-colour burleying, but usually fine if I take my ginger and travacalms. I'm not one to ask to go back anyway, and I promise to wash off any unwanted designs down the side of your pride and joy.

PM me if you have a spot open. I'm not fussy but would ideally like to know where you're planning on heading and what you're targeting and also what type of boat and likely costs.

Also, I'm happy to meet up with anyone local for a mutual 'check-out' and chat beforehand, even if you don't have any trips planned.

Thanks, Greg

Good post Tigerfish.

Get a bit more involved with the forum as it will help the crew to get to know your 'character'.

Hopefully an offer or two comes your way.

Thanks John, appreciate what you're saying about getting more presence on the forum. Haven't been out fishing as much as i'd like recently, so haven't had much to contribute but will hopefully remedy that over the next couple of months.

I would say come out with me, but then you say you want to catch fish!!!!! I prefer floating around throwing money straight into the water, it takes the middleman out of the equation.

But seriously, I will keep you in mind as long as you don't mind me learning as we go................

Cheers Cammos - I'm a fan of 'short term tackle rental' as well so I won't judge you if you don't judge me...haha. Anyway, I don't mindgoing out with a non-expert at all, I'd be keen for any fishing time so give me a shout next time you need a deckie. I'll send you a PM with my number.
