Crab Measures

G'day All,

New to the forum and was just wondering what people think of this crab gauge I knocked up for my dad who wanted one with a wide edge for ease of measuring.

Instead of trying to keep a small thin piece of plastic on the carapice it gives you plenty of scope to measure easier.

Happy fishing

Very nice mate, good idea too, looks like you got another one laying in the background, you make them as a hobbie ? you could unload some on here if you could get personalised stickers with boat names ect..

 again, well done :)

Hey Saintash thanks mate I do it as a hobby I have a couple of CNC machines and can put anything people might want on a guage.

They do work really well as it is a pain with the normal type measure to keep one side on as you try to measure.

They are accurate

as my machines are accurate to .001 mm this is actually 127.41 by my vernier gauge so I made a point of being slightly over.

cheers

Great idea. I find it a pain in the arse trying to use the current measuring devices. Put a patent on it...tell us how much they are, and we can put an order in.

I think patents are pretty expensive, could prob do with fishwrecked on the other side of them to fancy em up a bit. :)

I would be keen for a set of new gauges

Tue, 2010-01-19 08:28

My uncle broke two of my plastic ones trying to use it to pry a crab claw open, you would have thought he would learn after the first time:D

I would like to get hold of a cray, marron, abalone and crayfish gauge made from aluminium.

They look great mate! Love the CNC work. Maybe a little scraping on the edges and some wet and dry finished off with a light buff for that proffesional look. You could easilly sell them mate.
I make Aluminium ones with my students and they are always a big hit.
Well done.

would they have to have 127mm on them, a guy at work thought this might be neccesary. I might email the fisheries dept and seek some advice, don't want to get anyone in trouble .

Rosco they are made out of perspex so wouldn't want to scrath it up too much  but made out of ali would also be a good Idea just weld the flat side bit on.
