Hi All
Firstly i want to make it clear that this is not
a post to start a bitching session LOL.
I was thinking about the situation that happened to the big pinky
post when my comments were hijacked.
It seems that when ever someone posts a comment that isnt the opinion of most people that they get jumped on and looked down upon.
A opinion is someones thoughts on the matter and i dont think that they should be harshly jugde on it.
Am i the only one who thinks this or am i paranoid?
Thanks

I am talking in general.
People are quick to get defensive about an opinion.

Okies then
Okies then RR
Unfortunately, what you are asking is the nature of ALL forums. The very nature of the internet makes it a very impersonal(is that a word??) place, where things can very easily be taken out of context. It is also a place where 'keyboard tough guys'come to to vent their spleen, on all and sundry, and try to ram their their thoughts and process' down the throats of the unwitting other contributors.
To date, and quite surprisingly, despite whats going on at most other wa based fishing websites, this one has managed to stay one step ahead of the rest on that score. Sure, there have been the occasional dust ups, but compared to others i frequent, this place sets a great example of how a 'specialty forum' should be run and moderated. (*removes tongue from back of Gallash' strides*)
I think the key is, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one, just some stink more than others...
. Try not to read too much into what others are saying, attempt to stay un-emotional, think about things logically BEFORE typing, and re-read what others have posted, before you respond, and type something angry.
Oh, and you're just paranoid!!!!

Ok from where i stand it goes like this :
1/ my opinion
2/ another opinion
3/ your choice to have a come back or ignore it
What i am trying to say is there is alot i dont say because i dont know how it will be taken so i chose not to comment . but if i post something and other dissagree thats life as long as they dont get nasty because that only causes the trouble we have been seeing
The same goes with pics some like to show there whole catch some chose to show only one or two . As long as they are not breaking any regulations then what is the harm . once again your choice is to comment or not if it is a negitive post then you have to expect other opinions may differ .
This is only my opinion and maybe in future many should think before they type about other feeling i dont know.

You say you dont post sometimes cos you dont know how it will be taken. Thats my point, you should be able to post your opinion and not get attacked for it.

Absolutely agree Rodrat!
It's interesting you raise this, because I sent Adam a PM on my thoughts on this very subject recently.
Without getting all soft and tree hugging
, there have been times when I've seen some pretty solid (verbal) body blows exchanged recently, and, unfortunately, some of that has come from FR memebers. I'm not having a shot at anyone, just that when this happens, what could otherwise be a healthy, respectful exchange of different ideas and opinions, degenerates into a pointless (point scoring(LOL does that make sense)) slanging match.
Look, I know there are a lot of very passionate people in here, along with a hell of a lot of knowledge and a great willingness to help out in all sorts of ways. Also, that, given these passions and the contentious subjects we post about, and exchange ideas and thoughts over, it's inevitable that hackles will rise and noses become somewhat disjointed.
Everyone has their own narrative style, often, it's part of their personality (and sometimes I think a few sherbets as well
) so the last thing we want to do is replace one possible issue (not posting for fear of recrimination) with another issue (not posting because my post may not be considered sociably compliant). Often it's not WHAT you say, it's HOW you say it.
Some times, even with emoticons, our intended meaning is misconstrued.
That said, there's nothing wrong with a bit of harmless banter.
Look how we rally together if when we collectively rebut an 'external flamer'
. We should remember that comradre when we exchange different ideas, thoughts and passions. 'Talk ABOUT your feelings, not WITH them'. (Sorry if I'm starting to sound like a midday bad american therapist there LOL).
Anyway, that's my 10c

Scaring of new members??
I'd hate to see newbies browsing this site considering to join, lately there seems to be alot of knowledgeable & experienced people not willing to post for fear of being attacked?? Just doesn't seem right IMO

The main thing that I see
The main thing that I see seems to get peoples backs up is the kill picks and the big breeder pics. Both don't worry me but the kill pics concern me as I think fisheries frequent this site and we could be loading the gun for them. I like seeing big fish, PB fish and unusual pics. I use to do the kill pics in the past but now I find myself taking pics of fish fresh out the water and getting some great pics.

Totally agree
Vag, fresh shots even with a bit of liquid gold is better than a "paver shot" IMO.

Good point
Very good point Vagabond and whilst I have backed in the guys that post kill pics, I don't necessarily agree with them for the exact reason you have posted. But still, its legal to do so and goes on regardless if it gets posted or not, just because its there for everyone to see shouldn't make much of a difference. (unfortunately for a few it does)
Thanks Deefa, you made me feel all warm and fuzzy there for a second... I think.. ;)
As for comments, well, its a tough one. Not everyone is going to agree, its just how civil that discussion becomes. Unfortunately it doesn't take much to start an argument these days and the old chill pill really needs a bit of rehashing, after all its the bloody internet and we are on a fishing forum, not talking world politics or religion or about how much the eagles suck.
If you really want to be taken seriously by the other members on the site as brought up by Dalmatinac earlier this week, fill in your contact information, give your real name and don't be scared to post what you think. I have always said I will protect anyone's opinion from personal attack, whats deemed as a personal attack is always a difficult one as some people have thicker skin than others and what one person considers as a joke may easily offend someone else.
This also relates to banter, even though some of you guys are good mates and like giving out a bit of stick, to the outsider it is easily misconstrued and often taken out of its original context.
Ultimately it comes down to taking the time to think about your post and its connotations. Myself and the moderator team try and keep things balanced and only really ask that you try and keep your comments constructive and informative. Sure a bit of banter is fun, just think about it a bit first for those that may not be in the loop.
Hopefully this will alleviate some of the negative comments/criticisms and make reading and browsing more enjoyable.
Cheers,
Adam

Freezer Filling
I know its semantics but I think everyone has their own moral code and will continue to pursue it. I have every respect for those that release everything, those that release some, those that release most and as long as they keep within bag limits etc and don't waste what they catch, those that keep everything"legal".
Each to their own.
Cheers

Everybody
I have no hard feelings towards anyone on the site.
We all love our fishing and are passionate about the hobby in general and i think thats why we get a little defensive.
I only take part in this fishing site and as far as im concerned its the best. I enjoy logining on and seeing fish pics and peoples comments.

my take!
Agree with Jason, fresh pics look alot better of some standout fish. Personally I cant be bothered laying out all my fish and taking a picture so that's why I post pics of standouts!
Certainly an each to their own thingy!

Easy solution
The main thing that I see seems to get peoples backs up is the kill picks and the big breeder pics. Both don't worry me but the kill pics concern me as I think fisheries frequent this site and we could be loading the gun for them.
From Vag - lets make a 'rule' that, when we go out and catch nothing, we post an empty esky - that should balance the perception

If everyone posted empty
If everyone posted empty eskies there would be a 12month ban

Is this
thread about pictures that offend or comments that offend? Quite honestly, even though i have a suspicion that i would keep a fish like the big Pink posted. i would always feel a bit guilty about it - sort of like running over your Mother in Law's cat and keeping it quiet. I am the first to own up to bugger all fishing talent and will probably post a picture of the next herring i catch and can fully understand why the pictures are posted. If you disagree with the post, you should be able to do so rationally and not be attacked for holding an opinion. I would hate to see the site become a forum for tree huggers OR fish pillagers. Vigorous debate is healthy if it does not spiral into abuse.
