Clever ideas from NZ
I’m over in NZ for a few days visiting, and each time I come over here I manage to spot something (without trying) that tells there are some clever people still here.
Have a look at the picture, think about how many posts go up here about the rules.
Some with no answer, some stupid, some contentious etc
I would contend that if Fisheries cannot answer the question in a short text then either
1/ the rules are too complicated
2/ Fisheries don’t know
3/ Fisheries are unwilling to provide a binding answer, and hence should not be able to later decide otherwise in retrospect.
You should be able to text location, fish and get a binding answer in a timely fashion.
If Fisheries are unable to provide a response in say 8hrs? then obviously you should be able to hold that up later as a Defense or mitigation.

Whoa , Thats common sense.
No good peddling that stuff around here mate , You going to have fisheries pushing the big red button and putting the tinfoil hats on.
We should ( given the penaltys) be able to run rules , and questions past every fisheries officer in the state and get the same answer.
No grey areas , no personnel take on things , no ,Im not sure , so I will book you and work it out in court later stuff.
Yes even with the traffic act or criminal law there are always things to be questioned or tested, thats why courts exsist , but surely fishing law is , or could be
less complicated and more user friendly .
To realize just how complicated they are , a few years back I had a couple of guys in work , one filipino and one N.Z guy whom are both newish to fishing in WA
ask me to help inform them about all the rules for fishing here. ( boat, beach , crab , squid , the lot)
I tell you we spent a few lunchtimes going around in circles discussing RBL,s , , lic req , bag limits , size limits , boat limits, zone rules , equipment rules , bans ,
etc etc etc. ( yes the recfish app works well for the very basic limits and rules)

Looks like you're at the base of Mt Maunganui
Nice spot. I lived in Tauranga prior to immigrating to Oz in 1980. I used to be a weekend deckie on the day charter boat MV Manutere which I believe still operates out of Tauranga / Mt. Many good memories fishing around Motiti and Mayor Islands.
