Mate you will love it! Carnarvon is awesome Cool

places to fish:

Offshore = Quobba, Gnaraloo, Bernier and Dorre Islands, Lady Joyce, Coral Patch and the Shoals

Inshore = creeks, outside leads and just off the 1mile jetty

Lanbased = Blowholes, Quobba, Gnaraloo, Pelican Point, numerous beaches and the jetty's.

species likely to catch:

various Mackerel and Tuna, Cod, Cobia, various Trevally and Snapper, Mullaway and all sorts of sharks.

Plenty of options for accomodation just check over the net. The weather this time of year is pretty ordinary with strong winds most of the time allthough you do get the odd day or two which are calm. As you can tell.. i'm local Wink

Feel free to PM me

Cheers

My mother lives in Carnarvon

My mother lives in Carnarvon and I make an annual trip up around this time.

Keep in mind I always fish land-based, so this will be slanted towards that style of fishing.

As WODF states, the wind is really nasty this time of year. According to a local experienced angler, the only place you can regularly get out to in the windy season is Garth's Rock. Otherwise it is a case of wait for a calm day. And in my experience, they are not too common at this time of year.

However, I do not in any way recommend a novice go to Garth's Rock without an experienced fisherperson accompanying him. Even better is to have someone experienced with Garth's Rock with you. I have had personal experiences and heard many stories regarding Garth's Rock gone wrong; it is not a place you want to make a mistake.

So please excercise caution around the area. However, there are very few places I have fished from that can compare to a good day on Garth's.

Spanish Mackerel, Spangled Emperor, Sharks, Cobia, Sharks, Cod, Long Tom (I caught a large one there in the wash), various Tuna species, did I mention Sharks?

1 mile jetty used to be an option but a recent fool burnt a large section of the recently renovated jetty. My mother caught all kinds of fish from there:

Tailor, Tuna, Mackerel, Dart, Trevally, Sharks, "Bluebone" and the speciality of the Jetty: Sea-run Mulloway. However, the wind would have reduced the ability to get out on the 1 mile even if complete.

I may PM you a regularly overlooked spot we "found" on the last two trips. This easy to get to spot has produced:

1 of the largest Mangrove Jack I have seen, a good sized salmon catfish, various small cod, parrotfish, small sharks, tailor.

In regards to having a small boat, one of the things I wanted to do was to get out near the 1 mile Jetty. There is a great variety of species there and one would hope that the reduction of jetty anglers would have increased the catch there!

Hope this helps.

David.

Drop in to the tourist centre opposite the post office, they have phamplets with the gps marks for the Lady Joyce,Barge and ballast sites. Was at the Joyce and barge on Sunday, got a nice pinky, mulloway and heaps of undersize pinkies and shark mackeral.Probably best if you can get out at night.Try the river mouth and around the jetty for tailor and queenies on lures. Not forgetting to try for a crab or 2 on the weed out front.

With the southerlies we get at this time of the year,High rock,Garth's and Red Bluff provide some shelter for rockfishing

If the winds drop right off for a day give the islands a go,drag a lure in close around Koks island for a spaniard or tuna.In close on the western side for a blue bone or nor west snapper and pinkies
