Awesome news for the town of Carnarvon. Was stuck in limbo with plans on what to do. How many FW members are intending to head up? Would be good to meet a few for a beer at the weigh in.

Great for the town and great news!

although personally I believe it may now be time to also switch it up from just a weigh in, and include new catagory of size limits on a brag mat so a lot of fish can be released after a photo.

still have a weigh in, but also have length as separate catagory.

no one is going to eat a 30kg trevally when they have an esky of snapper/trout/baldies etc.

Agree with you on this one. I know the fish don't go to waste as they are offered to people at the weigh who take them, but I think this option should be considered in the future.

Ban

if you’re on Facebook it’s on the ABC North West Page. I’m not sure how to get the link for it, below is the pasted text from it.

The State Government is looking at banning the fishing of all demersal species around Bernier Island from June through till August.

“It will be disastrous for Carnarvon and tourism,” said Janice Baird from the local tackle shop.

“Why would tourists come here when they can’t fish for demersal species?

“There’s not too many things you can do in Carnarvon and one of them is fishing. We all love our fishing. It’d be devastating."

The ban would be to better protect Pink Snapper while they’re spawning.

Commercial fishers the ABC spoke to were in favour, but many recreational fishers and charter operators believe it will unfairly impact them.
