Car Turning Circle with Boat
Submitted by PerthGlory on Fri, 2011-05-06 10:55
I am designing a new building and carpark in a coastal location.
Carpark must be capable of allowing a car and 22foot boat on trailer to turn 180degrees.
Really a question for all the landcruiser and big boat owners out there. The turning circle of a new landcruiser is 11.8m.
When you hitch a 22 foot boat on the back can you still do a 180degree turn on full lock and turn within the 11.8m
Cheers

pretty tight
you can do t but its pretty tight. I look at my trailer sometimes when i have to turn it sharply. looks like it puts a lot of strain on you tyres, rims, hubs etc because the trailer is being asked turn make a turn with very little forward / backward motion, with a hell of a weight on it. A bit of momentum / speed helps and takes the strain out of it, but thats no good if you dont have the room.
The wider the turning circle the better. I've got a 100 series cruiser.
cheers

If your trailer is single axle, then the issues arent as bad, but being 22ft i would expect you have tandem axles ?

I will work of an 8m radius providing a 16m turning circle. Should keep all you landcruiser owners happy

Wetting down the area beofre
Wetting down the area beofre the turn would reduce strain to your undercarriage, but as Muppet said, it but wont be ideal. Have you thought of utilising skates?

Might be better to design it
Might be better to design it so that the turn is around the building rather then in a drive way. Have seen a few houses that had a drive thru, front to back and a couple that drive thru around the house.

If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.
