Canal rocks in a tinnie
Submitted by Dom on Sun, 2010-03-14 11:51
Anyone got any tips for fishing canal rocks region safely from a 4metre tinnie?
Heading down for six days over Easter and looking for Salmon, naturally.
What lures are good for casting, trolling...etc What time of day, how deep...etc
Any advice would be appreciated! Got the family with me so I can't spend all day chasing them!

Canal
The salmon usually come from Smiths beach direction [if you are facing east, from left to right] through the moorings passed the boat ramp then head north from there right in close to the rocks.
Other spots to troll past are the Indicators [the 2 rocks where it breaks to the north of the boat ramp] and over towards Torpedo rock heading down to the right towards Super Tubes in the middle of Smiths beach.
Take care launching and retrieving if the swell is up and if you have a 4x4 use the little beach next to the ramp, you don't get as much surge there compared to the ramp.
I used to do well on the big Raider and chrome slice metal lures, either trolling or casting them.
