Camping Ledge/Lancelin/Wedge Area

 Hey all,
A group of us are looking to go to camping somewhere around Ledge/Lancelin/wedge island.
We want to take the dogs with us..
Can you camp anywhere around there? Or do the rangers crack down on it?

We have a couple of 2wd's with us, so what's the new Indian Ocean Drive like getting to Wedge?

I've only bypassed Wedge on the Cervantees to Lancelin 4wd trip, which used to pass through the firing range.

Cheers

yeah its another 15 mins or so after the lancelin turnoff. the bitumen road will take you directly to the shacks and from there the beach was a rock hard ride along the beach north. i wouldnt advise you to drive off the main stretch without a 4wd tho.

as for camping we havent encountered trouble from rangers before...

keep in mind to camp with the common courtesy of cleaning up after yourselves and not lighting any campfires & you shouldnt have any trouble.

also keep a close eye on the dogs as there is usually dirtbikes, buggies and cars driving sporadically all day long.

we normally head few miles north of wedge and camp in the dunes, plenty of spots as there are south of wedge as well, as the others said take away all of your rubbish , theres a tip at wedge ,    normally take my dog but be well aware of the off roaders and dirt bikes.  its a great spot and its a shame they put the hard top through  IMO

bit more than 15 min

As posted above you should be right.  I think the turnoff for wedge is more like 30 min after lancelin, its hard to beleive it is that far but it seems to go forever

U serious about 2wd on beach?

Cheers for the tips guys. Gives me a bit more confidence that the rangers aren't going to be as strict as first thought.

I may have trouble convincing the 2wd's to drive on the beach thought! Is it really that hard sand up there??? Its always been soft when I've been up that way.

2 80 series LC's, 1 ford courier 4x4, an excel and a commodore.

Dogs are good with dirtbikes and stuff as we come off a farm anyway

I agree with the rubbish thing.... can't stand people leaving a mess and ruining it for the rest of us!

Yeah, i was at wedge for new

Yeah, i was at wedge for new years and plenty of cars were driving on the beach directly opposite the shacks. Mind you the majority of them were commodore sedans with p plates using the beach as if it were motorvation or something.

The further north or south along the beach you travel from the shacks the softer it gets.

Imo its not responsible driving a 2wd on the beach. Theres probably nothing more annoying than having to spend time snatching out a bogged family sedan. If its designed for the road keep it on the road i reckon.

You can always park the cars at the shacks and get a lift in a 4wd drive. Alot of mucking around though.
