What's your mate having trouble with Terry? They are big files so it's helpful to have a decent computer to start with. If the computer is a bit old then it might have trouble playing the files and make them stuttery.
I use Sony Vegas to edit, though I also actually like the original Windows Movie Maker (the one from XP. You can also run it on Windows 7).
The super slow motion is a bit more complicated. You need to shoot at over 60fps (I use 120fps) and use special software for that. I use Adobe After Effects with the Twixtor Plugin.
that was awesome mate, the last almost 12 months in brissy has been pretty hard. I am really looking forward to getting back up to some consistant isolated barra, one way or another it will happen by the end of this year.

A friend has just got himself a Gopro but is having trouble making a video. Gets it to the PC then the trouble starts.
