Attatching hooks!

Going for rays and sharks tomorrow off the jetty. Is it better to use gangs or snelled hooks?

Also, is better to use 80lb mono trace or 25kg mono stainless steel trace?

Can you connect to 4/0 or bigger to the wire trace so that it has the same effect as snelled hooks?

Use a big circle hook and 7

Use a big circle hook and 7 strand plastic coated wire, and a big long mono leader (so when the sharks powering away from you the thinner mainline doesnt rub off on the kin or get cut by the tail). Seems to be what a lot of shark chasers use (better for the fish if releasing too).

You can use 2 hooks with wire if you wish... but you'll need a crimping/swaging tool to use wire regardless... unless you use piano wire which I wouldn't suggest.

I have done a fair bit of boat based shark fishing back east (Gold Coast) for hammerheads, bulls & whalers.

I use 7x7 (49 strand wire) attached to any big game hook (9/0 & above). The nylon coated wire was connected to a wind-on leader (150lb & above) by a strong swivel. Wind-on leader of course was attached to your main line by a loop to loop connection.

You didn't specify whether you are land or boat based - so I'm not sure what size shark & species of shark/s you're after & how seriously you take shark fishing.

I'd forget using gangs.

Let me know if you need more info... Perhaps I can post some pics as to how to rig the hooks with wire.

away from gangs , do's to much damage to the fish as they normally end up swallowing them and damaging the gills , depends on what sharks u targeting , but in general these little rats u wont need more than 40lb steel , Snell 2 x 9 or 10/0's - use the figure of 8 knot - no need for crimps .
