ASHES 2017-2018

So the first squads being selected. Couple of interesting in's and outs. Lets see if the Aussies can get some runs on the board.

Can’t wait!! Gotta love the ashes..hope someone takes it by the throat like Jonno did a few years back...
thought the dorf would have got a bowl and spewin about Coulter Nile but a couple of west Aussies still having a crack. Hope our young bat gets some runs and I hope shaun pays back the faith (or rewards the Bloke who he has incriminating pictures of!).
Prey the weather plays the game.
roll on session 1 day 1 of test 1...hope we bowl first and stark sets the tone with some nasty short stuff

Lyon's run out
Great bit of fielding to break up a slowish day. Good to see Patinson fire up towards the end of the day. Harder/dryer pitch tomorrow should liven things up.

The Poms batted well today on a paceless pitch. Lyon was amazing to watch with his drift, turn and bounce and was pretty unlucky not to have a couple at least.
Bring on the new ball and hopefully a quicker pitch tomorrow

Captain stands up again
Good support from Marsh. Long way to go to get back on top. Good hard fought cricket. Reckon England will struggle if the two pace back up bowlers do not keep it tight. Pitch still seems slowish no real zingers even though the Aussie pace man bent their backs to get the ball up for a good spell.

Well well well, an outright win is certainly possible now, need to knock them over in this next session after lunch, and hopefully not lose many wickets ourselves.

We'll have two cracks at the Poms under lights, this evening and if necessary tomorrow evening. We have a lead of 250 which is enough but will bank another 100+ today as the princess has had her rest.
Bugger me, Lyon bowls his heart out, takes a screamer and then has to face a rampant bowling line up, under lights for the princess. Shame.

Pretty strange commentary
Pretty strange commentary aye, it's not like last night was the only twilight session for the match. We've got two quicks who've returned from injury just in time for the Ashes and a bloke we've only just got back on the park after being constantly injured for 7 years and we weren't exactly hooping it around before the last wicket.
Smarsh made a tonne in the last dig so going on his history we all know what comes next regardless of twilight or daytime. Quack, quack, quack.

Hazelwood
Quite inconsistent in both matches so far. Be good for him to get back to line and length, he should be the one to get swing in the evening. Lyon having another good match. I wouldn't have sent SMarsh in last night either, would have been another easy wicket for the Poms.

Mitch to also get a double ton. Get a lead of 250+ and then send some leather past the Poms nostrils again. Be interesting to see if there's any swing with the change in weather. Hopefully the Aussie will not have to chase to many runs on the last day.

The WACA
Call me an old sentimental b.....d if you must but, if there is one thing that really gets up my nose is the way this state treats some of it's most valuable history.
What am I on about, I have just read about how they plan to turn the WACA into housing or what ever as it's on prime land and has, according to some, out lived it's purpose as a field for the gentlemen's game to be played on.
This state seems to have the attitude of let nothing stand in the way of greed and so called progress, our history is flattened on a regular basis and we (sandgropers) do not have many structures still standing which we can point to as significant places.
I don't know how old the WACA is, but I do feel that it is significant as a place where some great moments in the game of cricket have been played out in the west. Why can't a few dollars be spent on making it a safer venue and a world renown pitch be preserved for future intra state and world games, I would make a bet that the thought of putting a bulldozer through Lords or the MCG would bring about the fall of the government that even mentioned that view.
For me the place has strong memories and atmosphere something that you can't put a price on, IMO if these mad greedy fanatics are not stopped you may be able to take your kids to a game of cricket in a glitzy all singing and dancing venue but, but it will not have a proud history or an atmosphere you can taste and cherish.
Rant over

1885 was when the WACA was
1885 was when the WACA was born according to their web page. Sadly for the WACA ground it is actually owned freehold by the WACA and if they don't have a revenue stream that exceeds the cost of running the venue then they'll have no choice but to sell the land off. Are they going to sell off all the land or just enough land to downsize the ground Meg as I too thought they were going to continue to lay State cricket there.
I've got some amazing memories of the WACA growing up but unfortunately it's grown to the point where I turned down a free Ashes pass in the members section this year because the viewing areas, available shade, drink and food service and the flatter than flat pitches they roll out have become so bad over the past 15 years that I chose to watch it from home. I for one cherish the WACA memories I have but won't miss the ground for big matches.

Should the Poms have declared late yesterday with a lead of about 120 and had a crack at the openers for 15 odd overs? Looks like a very very flat track where consistence is the key. Looking more like a draw if the Poms bat on this morning with the weather thats forecasted.

If we can bat the day out with a lead of 200 by mid morning tomorrow don't discount Lyon wreaking havock in those footmarks that are starting to break up. Either that or we'll collapse and get bowled out for 150 and lose by an innings
