Another boat missing

http://www.perthnow.com.au/news/western-australia/wa-police-search-for-man-missing-after-bunbury-fishing-trip/news-story/3dabc93312f5368aa3630318263d7b08

Not a good sign, no flares or EPIRB activated. Don't know what the conditions have been like down there, whales are migrating down at the moment so may have hit one in the dark, but I'm speculating. let's hope for a good outcome.

Yeah, been watching this one also. The guy has all the gear to keep him safe and he's very experienced, so here's hoping for a good outcome.

The Ocean Reef guy?

Wed, 2016-10-19 21:38

Did anything come from him a few months back? No boat? Anything either?

Scary to think it can go so pear shape without trace.

I was thinking the same. Two experienced boaters and not a trace. Its like we have a bermuda triangle. I recall a esky lid found the first time but its origin was unknown. throw in the malaysian airline and the mystery deepens.

Bermuda triangle

Sat, 2016-10-29 13:41

Talking of the bermuda triangle, funny enough in that it is exactly on the opposite side of the earth to us. Its called an antipode. Makes the mystery of MH370 a little more spooky.

Look up bermuda triangle antipode.

Finger crossed for a good outcome

Wed, 2016-10-19 21:51

From the report on the news it appears that he is well experienced in boating and it is not exactly a small boat he has gone out in.

He's hoping for a positive and good ending

Logging on with Sea Rescue

Thu, 2016-10-20 07:51

Once again it highlight why you should log on with Sea rescue when going out to sea. The search area is massive from Bunbury to Mandurah and considering he left Monday night and not due back until Tuesday night he could be anyware. At least we would have an idea where he was going. If travelling along the coast over long distance recommend contacting each sea rescue group along the way.

This is a similar situation to the seach of Mindarie. No idea where they went, no flares and no EPIRB activated.

Hope

Thu, 2016-10-20 14:58

Sadly do not hold too much hope of finding him.

If he had logged on then the sea rescue would have had an idea where he wanted to fish but with aircraft scouring the area and boats and beach searches and finding nothing.

Another reason why I never head out alone in my boat, you never know what may happen.

An aircraft has been going back and forth covering a large area out from Mandurah and up off Rockingham, but out beyond the islands. Done a small loop early to check on something, but went back to his search pattern.

A work mate has a friend who knows the bloke and apparenttly it might of been a planned suicide to go down with the boat, that's what I got told. Whether it's true or not is another thing. Either way, it's not good.

Search and rescue has called off the search today.

sea rescue have considered all of the options and senerios before calling off the search. some people in the know seem to think they should be looking further north and alot wider considering the info that has been made available. and no i am not pointing fingers and saying sea rescue haven't done there job properly or anyone is a bad person ect ect. pays to listen to some people that's all.

Water police

Thu, 2016-10-27 14:24

It is not the sea rescue that makes the decisions during a search it is the Water Police. So they decise when to call it of.  As there was limited information and he failed to tell anyone where he was going how far and how long do you search. Many of those involved in searches are volunteers and it is frustrating to know that if people had logged on it would help narrow down the search area. After 24hrs it becomes a body search for closure for the families.

I understand that

however a bit of networking would go a long way. you know, a bit of asking around. The bloke I spoke to reckoned wide off lancelin would be a good place to start looking. 24hrs is pretty quick to write someone off.

 Doubt it was a planned

Sat, 2016-10-29 13:04

Doubt it was a planned suicide as mentioned above. I work with the guys nephew and Mr doyle litterally purchased a brand new Epirb the day before he went out. Not to mention the boat just had a new engine put in it. The last his family heard from him was a phone call saying he was on his way back in and that was it. I was told they traced the call and that's where they started the search

Last known position

Sat, 2016-10-29 13:21

The last known position of the vessel is the starting point for nearly every search and it expands out from there with consideration of weather, tide and time elapsed taken to account, these are added to the formula that forms the search patterns and areas needed to be searched.
