Freedive Metro Mack

Nice to tick another one off, and I sure did yesterday!
Perfect end of season day. Caught a few dolphinfish, speared one, dived for some crays, then had a go for a metro Spanish Mackerel freedive.
They seemed to spook very easily if you dove on them, so I just had to be at the right depth when they came through and turned across me.
I really couldn't be assured that the shot was good, especially with the speed the fish took off at, so I just had to let him run. In the end, I probably chased the mack, my speargun, a 25m floatline and a 10L RA float about 50-75m before he slowed right down.
I got him up to the boat, and big thanks to Pete D for the snaps. He went 1130mm. so no monster, but great for the BBQ!

Ta Poddyfish!I went for the
Ta Poddyfish!
I went for the Spierres, but fiberglass, not carbon. They are a revelation after plastic fins. They don't have the accelleration of the plastics I had before, but damn the return on them is fantastic, and they are so fast! I really needed that when the mack shot off with my spear, gun, floatline and float, pulling it underwater in some fairly low-vis conditions. I just had to keep my head down, work on my style and keep finning!
I went for Pathos, and its a very light build, just 830g a fin, (780g with carbon), compared to 1250g ea for picasso plastics. Right now they feel too tight with 3.5mm socks so I must get some thinner ones. I have been warned that they will often feel that way though, as they have a very firm band of rubber across the toes, unlike most fins. I know with the picasso pockets, and presumably others, when you kick, you can feel the pocket stretch and the fin move away from your toes. With the Pathos pockets you don't get that feeling at all.
Beuchat is supposed to be another good choice?

Ta Grant, was a good feeling!
Lamby, there were a few to choose from.
It seemed to be that you just had to get into the zone, don't be seen to be paying them too much attention, then smack the stupid/nosey one.
They were really particular about the water they liked. It was South of a bombie, just as the water cleared up, you had to be there and sort of pointing the right way if they were there. Then the Southerly kicked in and all the water was grubby and they pissed off.

How deep did you have to hang around before they came through??
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Grayzee: 7-10m, a big ask for me, I can't usually get to the bottom of a bathtub without a tank.
