Upgrading sounder
After some advice on what sounder to look at. I am currently using a lowrance 107cdf which is great for finding fish in water up to 200mtrs but once past that depth i cant find bottom. This was a pain when i was up north as i wanted to try some deep water jigging and baits in 300-400mtrs. Also looking to fish this water off perth. Also handy to find bait schools in deep water.
Need a sounder thats going to find the bottom in depths up to 500mtrs. Lowrance claims 760mtrs but came nowhere near this. I know i will be looking at a sounder with a 1kw transducer but what they claim and what they actually do are 2 different things.
Does anyone use a sounder that has been out in these depths and been able to find bottom.
Not to fussed on brand as long as it does what i need it to do.
Cheers

Nutty stuff.
jigging in 300m does kinda hurt for some reason. I guess a 600g jig and a 40 degree heat doesn't help, or when you get S.F.A. :D :D :D
DEFINATELY gotta pump some iron to drop iron in those depths... let alone hook up :D
I bet all those people passing us gamefishing must have given us some looks. Yes yes I was the daft one that came up with the idea... :X :X never know til you try.

Derwent is in about 195mtrs but i have heard wispers of a few sea mounts out in the trench and further out that come up to 260-300mtrs out of 1000mtrs and they hold good fish. Keen to head out and have a look.
Have done it before over east bottom fishing in 1000ft and caught gem fish and big eye cod. Keen to see whats out here as there are not to many people that talk about it. Have also heard of pink snapper out off the shelf.
Just need a sounder thats going to find the bottom in that depth cause its a long way to drop and wind up for nothing.

i am told i can get a 1KW transducer for mine but am thinking its prob best to just upgrade to one designed for deep water. I know it wont be cheap though.

derwent
yeh the derwent is about 200m deep..the day we had it was mint, no wind and minimal drift
we striked it lucky
yeh the reds were good size and one big one..all around the 35-40ish size and one around 50+ mark
but i would imagine that the drift would get pretty bad out there..need a good 32 or 48 ounce sinker
cheers

Furuno!
Steve,
On my boat I've got a Furuno FCV 1100 commercial sounder, the most popular crayfishing & wetlinning sounder sold today.
I run a 2kw 200khz and a 1kw 28 but 50khz is more than enough. I've got mine in a wetbox and I can hold bottom and see structure in 500m plus etc I use it for bottom fishing, game fishing and cray diving....the fish cant hide.
I've got a special on this unit in my shop, I've got one left at the special price, PM me if ya want a price on this bad boy, I've sold a few of these units to regular customers and like myself.....we'll never look back.
