southwest redfin
hi guys
this is my first post! i have been reading the forums on this site for a while and only just got around to actually signing up myself :)
so...i am just starting to get into some fresh water fishing - im down near bunno in the southwest.
was wondering if you guys could give me some pointers? like maybe a place i can go where my chances of getting something might be good? also what do you recommend in the way of tackle/lures? i have been going after redfin in the preston in boyanup...trying lures - little rmg scorpions, couple of spinners, worms on hooks... nothing! but people tell me they are in there!
i am thinking perhaps out at grimwade millpond? bailingup in the river there? out at capel? has anyone had success at boyanup? glen mervyn dam?
should i use lures or bait?? haha sorry about all my questions i am aching to get into it and actually catch some fish!

Capel river has a reddie
Capel river has a reddie population, heard of people getting them near the bunbury bypass bridge. Harvey Dam is worth a look and has some big fish too. I usually use the RMG Scorpion 35's, but found a recent change to using 3 inch Atomic Grubs saw alot of better size fish being caught, and the small redfin hit them hard still as well. Alot cheaper to lose a them to the snags too.

Use plastics in the smaller
Use plastics in the smaller water/pools so you can work it more and smilin jack lures in the green yellow colour kill the reddies, cheap lures too. Most water down south will have reddies in it. Harvey dam, dwellingup, pemberton are all good spots. Just go exploring thats half the fun!!

with grubs and soft plastics is it better to trawl , or just let them sit, or jiggle them and move them in slowly..?

With any soft plastics mix up the retrieve rate but make sure you only short twitch them. Pumpkin seed in 2+ inch paddle tail work well for me in heavy snag areas,where the fish are,and remember to have a selection of sizes and colours - try pink twisty tails as a change.
Have used RMG Scorps in all sizes but mostly 35's do the job.Get the Redfin colour and anything with red or orange somewhere in the lure.Change the treble hook to Owner and take off the centre treble.Experiment with glued on flattened lead weights to get different swimming actions.Start with the small size,or the least weight you can cast,then up the sizes that suit the area you like to fish.
Work all types of lures slowly is the best advice I can give.Try the Harvey Dam around any timber/structure.

so you mean replace the back
so you mean replace the back treble hook on a scorpion with an owner and remove the front treble hook? so its just a hook trailing behind the scorpion?

Hey mate exact same story for me at boyanup! fish there all the time because im living at daradanup which is about 10 minutes from there. Never seen or caught a fish from there although have been told many times that they are in there... but im just going to keep trying there and hopefully one day will get results :)

yea this is the river we are
yea this is the river we are talking about (preston river) it also flows through boyanupand there are apparently redfin and cobbler in there but i have never seen or caught either despite trying for both species upstream in donnybrook and downstream in boyanup.
