South Beach Groyne

Fished South Beach this morning for the second time. I'm new to this board and new to fishing in Perth having immigrated from Canada and ocean fishing is basically all new to me for this formerly land locked boy. Had some success at local groynes for bread and butter fish and swung by SB around 430am. Twenty minutes in I pulled in a 31 cm King George, wasn't even sure it was KG to be honest until I looked it up and read about the distinct spotting. Extremely tasty for brekky this morning.

Also pulled in a half dozen herring, all of nice size and kept a couple. Pulled in a small Port Jackson, a small skippy and a single Garfish, my first of this species. The old fella next to me pulled in a dozen or so garfish in a couple hours, and his grand daughters pulled in a half dozen or so fish each.

Overall fun morning for a newbie like me and a mixed bag of catches.

having a big fish bait or fillet might land you a big shovelnose as many get hauled in from there.

Also have heard reports of salmon chasing some herring schools and smashing them at the surface lately.

I caught it on unpeeled

Tue, 2010-04-20 08:56

I caught it on unpeeled whole prawns. I usually use half peeled but I'd had a couple strong nibbles and threw out a whole prawn and he nailed it.

This was off the groyne nearest the car park, the middle of the three groynes, great spot near my house which I'll probably try again soon.

The northern groyne looks promising as well. Aside from all the small stuff something big went through and spooked the fish a couple times, I had my big line out there and my mulies were stripped but couldn't hook up.

Throw me a pm if you want/love fishing as I've been down evening and morning before and would be happy for some company.

My mate pulled in two king

Fri, 2010-07-02 18:08

My mate pulled in two king George at SB about two weeks ago in a good session. Tuesday morning we went again and were having a very bad session until a school of mullet came by and we pulled in four pretty nice size 25ish cm ones. Used them as bait and had a few runs and caught a decent sized guitar fish(string Ray looking sharks).

No tailor or anything big there lately just small stuff but at least a mix bag when you go down.
