JM PS 150 v's Synit DS 150
Submitted by Feders on Sun, 2011-06-26 20:01
I have a new Accurate BX 400XN coming and am going to spool it with 40lb line and want to match it to one of these two rods. Which one do you think is the better and has anyone experience with te rods ?
I also have a PS 100 I will be using with the reel.
Thanks Feders

The JMs are good, but I think I like the Synit better. Are you Perth local? Love to see a bend in the DSm 150 around here somewhere!

Till,
No, NSW Kiama. It will be used for Kings up tp 15kg when the PS100g is not up to the task, which would be over 10kg mark. Price point PS150 $360/ Synit DS150 $620.
But if Iget the DS150 I'll try and post a shot. But there is certainly some good You Tube footage. They look the goods.

I've got a JM Terminator 150
I've got a JM Terminator 150 (Terminators were replaced by the Powerspell) that I built for overhead and run a Trinidad 12/30lb on it. It is one of my favourite combos to use, nice and light but still has some balls down deep. Recommend it highly for the price.

I have a JM PS 150 and love it. Very powerful little rod. Have knock over plenty of 15kg+ sambos with it. Can jig 200g jigs with it no worries. Have just got a new ocea jigger 1500p for it which I will be running 40lb on. Can't wait to give it a go. Awsome little reels.

Sweet combo seaquest. You
Sweet combo seaquest. You will love the jigger. Just don't cast with it. I almost took the local chiefs head off with a halco twistie in Fiji, using the jigger for what it wasn't deigned for!!!

Thanks guys. Seaquest - I
Thanks guys. Seaquest - I sent you the post re: your rod. Sooo... it appears the Synit wouldn't be worth the extra money by the sounds of it. As much as I'd like the Synit the JM150 always gets a good rap and I don't jig as much as I'd like, so the cheaper of the two appears the sensible option.
Got the reel today but was the wrong speed. What a hassle. More time to find the rod.

Not meaning to hijack this
Not meaning to hijack this post but down the track I'm also looking at something similar. The blanks I was cosnidering were the JM PS 100 or 150, the Synit Venom and top of the list was the JM Three kings special UL blank. I can't find any weights on the PS 100 or 150 and so far no info on the Synit but like the fact the three kings is only 93 grams. Interested to know people thoughts on these blanks for up to 50 lb line, max drag around 7 kilos. Will match up to a Stella SW 5000 for a sweet little rig.

I've got a Three Kings M
I've got a Three Kings M overhead and a L in spin and they are both awesome rods. I've had a play with the UL and it would be sweet with a 5000 Stella but I'd probably stick to 30-40lb line. If I didn't have the 150g Terminator I'd be getting a UL for sure

There is a new JM rod out
There is a new JM rod out called the Evolution Titanium. Not sure if its replacing the PS or just a new model. The 150 PS is rated to 12kg and the new 150 Evolution Titanium is rated to 16kg. Both are PE1-3 and 5'3".

I have used jigs from 90g to 250g without any problems but I think its best suited for jigs in the 130g to 150g range.
Been using it a bit to jig for nannies in 180m with 200g+ jigs. Little bit light for those size jigs but makes catching nannies a bit more fun.

Great to get all this feed
Great to get all this feed back. After speaking to a store in QLD who stocks both JM and Synit, it appears that the DS150 has more power and capable of handling a greater range of jigs (80-300g) over the PS150 - up to 200g before becoming over saturated. They seem to suggest that the DS150 was the best rod they had used and that it gave alot of control over the fish whereas the PS150 seemed to be less capable of controling the same size fish.
I'm thinking the Three Kings UL would be more of a comparison to the DS150. Another key point was that the DS150 had a tip section but more taper whereas the PS150 seemed to have less taper and folded away more easily.
Starting to sound like ALL good rods but the DS150 is more of an all rounder ?
Bunny,
I have the PS100g but are yet to use it. A mate uses his all the time and has a Three Kings UL as his back up if the fish are over the 10kg mark. I purchased one after seeing him pull in 7/8kg Kings in 100mtrs with 230g jigs. Its' probably only for mechanical jigging, as it definitely folds away or is saturated with these weights.
But loved the way it did and it didn't seem to be incapable. I was fighting the same fish with a Smith AMJS54H and it seemed like I was hurting compared to the JM100.
So now I am looking at the same set ups but want the back up rod for the bigger fish.

I'm waiting to hear back on the new Venom 150. It sounds like a better option than the deep shot but will post some info up soon.

Pretty sure Venom was the old range. Pretty sure they went grey ghost, then venom, then Deep Shot for jiggers.

Jigstar
Jigstar make a great little range of rods for the price, with only a 250, 350 and 450 in both over head and spin at this stage but with plans for more down the track, with a retail of $399-$439AU find a better preforming and looking rod for that price.
If you view the following link I was involved in a trip to the Three Kings with Chris Wong the man behind Jigstar, the guys from Jigstar South Africa and Jigstar Australia in March, anyway read the following report and show me photos of other reports where there gear is put though the test like the Jigstar range on this trip, with kings up to 44kg and bass up to 81kg who can complain http://fishwrecked.com/forum/monster-bass-and-kings-three-kings
At the end of the day I guess there is guys like #*!+ who sit on forums all day giving reports on gear when more than likely they hardly fish, at the other end of the scale there is someone like myself who spends many hours on the water putting this gear though its paces, another report from the Three Kings which I done after the above trip this year can be viewed at the following link, it hasn't made it onto this forum yet but I will get it on there over the next day or so http://www.jigtalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=129 .

Synit don't really keep their
Synit don't really keep their website up to date. Best to talk to fishhead.com.au or synit.co.nz.
There is a new DS100 that gets a few vague mentions around the traps, but the DS150 has been out a while and looks great.
They have a new softbait range, not sure if its shipping yet. There are a couple videos on youtube, and they get a mention over at 360tuna.com. as well.

Jigstars
Funny you should ask I was just talking to Chris today about the lighter rod, but it is nearly a year away, they take a long time to hit the shelves from when they are first tested.
Check with the boys at Oceanside if I heard correctly they may soon be stocking the range.
Jigstar is only a new brand it will become more popular over the years.

Coxy,Are you the JM
Coxy,
Are you the JM distributor, or am I getting mixed up here and it's another "coxy" hailing from the Gold Coast. Yes, Fishhead is the store I spoke with and I don't know anywhere else to source the rods.
I'm definitely no experienced jigger and asking advice here and passing on what I have learnt.
Coxy, I think I've read those reports of the 3 Kings trips and like the sounds of the Jigstar rods but they don't have a 150, as mentioned, they start at 250. The blanks seem to be sourced from the same supplier (Kilwell) for most good NZ rods.
I bought a Wilson Venom 350 which again is a (Kilwell) blank but wishing I got the Jigstar from reports ?
It's very hard for consumers to buy off the net a rod that you haven't had the chance to hold/test. So for me it's ALOT of research and the 3 Kings reports etc are jewels.
I find when it comes down to it you'll find a common theme in regards to one or two rods in a line up that come out on top. Hence my Qestion JM or DS ?
I haven't been into this type of fishing that long and have spent plenty already. I really rely on the experience of others to point me in the right direction, as it's dissapointing when you spend your hard earnt on something that just doesn't cut the mustard and dampens your enthusiasm. I'm sure many can relate.
So many thanks to those passing on their knowledge.
Want the DS150..............ha,ha,ha.

Kilwell cook the blanks for
Kilwell cook the blanks for Synit, Wilson and others in NZ, but apart from that, they have nothing really to do with each other.
When its a Synit cooking day, you can rest assured that the guys from the other brands aren't there, each brand has their own way of building blanks, and in the case of Synit, licensed IP from other industries.
I'd ask Fishhead to get what you want in, and if they can't help, then I guess you're obliged to buy it somewhere else.

Ive got a Synit Seriola
Ive got a Synit Seriola Deepshot, bought it about 4 months ago. haven't had a chance to get a sambo on it yet but have been able to muscle in a massive black ray. They have awesome pulling power!
I know you are looking at the 150, but the quality i got with the seriola i would have no hesitation in getting the 150.
It is nerve racking buying a rod on the net without getting to feel what its like beforehand, so i asked Till (above) what he thought of his Synit and then made the leap of faith! It was well and truly worth it!
