Geographe bay Marlin
Submitted by marble on Sun, 2011-03-06 11:06
I had a phone call from my brother and sister at about 10 this morning saying they had a marlin hookup trolling for tuna out from the jetty. Just rang them back and theyve got the fish close to the boat . . . . All the sister said was "its big and it jumps "
The brother is 5"11 and 120 plus kilos to give you an idea of the size. Gear was a finnor rod and spinning real and 30lb braid

You go to the northwest cape
and the marlin run all the way to the southwest capes. They are scared of you mate.
So tell me have you got your info from years on the water or hours on the internet?

Awesome Ben!
I hope he's got some photos that you can post up - thats only the 2nd ever from what I know - maybe wrong but its an amazing capture - guess its the upside of the warm currents and la Nina weather cycle. Did he say what type of beakie it is, and the size? Jeez thats gonna bring out the adrenaline junkies - I'm heading out tomoz - have to go and sort the teasers and shit out now. Have you heard of any macs down this way - I heard of 4 of Gracetown - just wondering about inside the bay / or north of Cape Nato.
Cheers

Fantastic Work (Play!)
Can't wait to see their smiles - probably bigger than the billfish - yep that is an awesome effort. Any ideas Ben on what it took - pusher / minnow / trolled gar and what was the leader / line class of the gear they got it on - perhaps the fish gods were smiling on yer Bro BIG TIME today! Thanks mate

Great effort. Threre have
Great effort. There have been rumors around town of a sailfish swimming around the Busso jetty. Two black marlin caught out in the 120s. Huge schools of macks at Grace town. Dollies caught on the weather bouy. Big tailor caught at Rocky point. It been quite a strange few weeks.
Caught a couple of southern bluefin tuna this morning at Bunkers and my mate caught a macky and a tuna as well at Quarries. Certainly worth a troll. There is heaps of bait fish out from Eagle bay and Bunkers.

Well Said Matt!-Now Open the End of the Jetty for Generation X!
If ever there was a time to bore it up the "nay sayers" about why fishing the end of the Busso Jetty is so important to the next generation of Sportsfishers it is RIGHT NOW!!!! It doesn't matter so much to blokes like me who have cars and boats and access to a plethora of locations because of those vehiclesbut think of the kid who is the next generation of Sportsfisher.
The 10 and 12 year old who is bored of catching herring and gardies back along the jetty. Pelagics come to the end of the jetty because of one thing and its the same thing that has brought them to the bay in force this season - the same thing that has tropical coral growing on the pylons - its called current.
BTW that coral was there when I was a kid - 37 years ago and it was there enmass and there were more fishos chasing Bonito, Salmon, Mulloway, SBT's and Sambos all year round then, than there is now for sure! And if its so precious why not ban the REC Diving Community from immediate access - someone with flippers could smash it compared to thin fishing line!
All those precious do gooder princesses concerned about the fragility of the end of the jetty eco system should harden up, get over it and let REC Anglers back onto the remaining platform for the next generation to sew the seeds of their Fishing dreams!
Jeez - got on a soapbox there - well its not every day a Marlin is caught in Geo bay is it!
Cheers
