Claremont flathead

Sunday arvo/evening. Took a few hours but caught a few fish. Two of 32-33 and a better 40cm model. That's dinner for the girlfriend tomorrow.

Images are of smaller fish released.

Good stuff Garrett, the 40cm

Good stuff Garrett, the 40cm models taste the best I reckon. I probably did see you down there, I was about halfway along the jetty with a red & black flannel & Holden cap on, green tacklebag. We left just after 5. The Holden cap is always on when I'm fishing. Feel free to come say g'day if you see me again sometime.

No worries. Just on dusk

No worries. Just on dusk there was a little school of small red fish that did a lap around where I was on the jetty.

Any idea what they might have been? Do juvie snapper come that far into the river? I figure they've got to be something else entirely.

I've never seen snapper past

Mon, 2011-12-19 08:19

I've never seen snapper past Stirling Bridge but that doesn't mean they don't go up further than that. I can't think of anything else red off the top of my head that might get up that way but I've seen some unusual fishy sights over the last few days. When I was at Claremont on Friday arvo there was a pair of small (15cm ish) fish that would come up to the surface every now & again, swim about for a bit then dissapear back under the jetty. Not that unusual but they looked like two pieces of weed floating in the water until you saw the weed start swinging it's tail slowly, make a hard right turn & swim into the current. Got no idea what they were, I havn't seen anything like them outside of an aquarium. They kind of looked like juvenile lion fish but they clearly were not.

I didn't have my camero out otherwise I would have tried to take a picture. They were a very bright red so they stood out pretty clearly. Not sure if anyone else saw them though.
