Not much fun. Strong wind blowing the sand around makes soft sand even softer

Been in that shituation a few times. Just be glad the swell was washing up on it. I nearly donated my old boys patrol to the sea years ago. Thankfully my mates surf had just enough power to turn his 35s and inch me out after a few hours

only once
I got stuck like that and being a week day no help and no cell service On Wilbinga beach, even 8lb of air in the tyres didn't help (well maybe a little), inch by inch I got her out with my spare tyre buried in the sand and my Kangaroo jack pulling me out.
I ain't driven on that bloody beach since.
I allways keep a tow chain and shackles in with my snatch strap, it may add a bit of weight to the bag they are in ..... but I was very thankful I had it that day.
If anyone who see's this wants that little bit of security make sure the top and bottom holes of your jack can fit your shackles I had to open mine up a bit to get the 8000 LB shackles to fit.
A farmer showed me his set up way back in about 1983 as he has had to do it to his tractors, but he had a tree nearby for an anchor.

Down like that you have to
Down like that you have to virtually dig all the sand out from under the car and then drop tyre down to bugger all. Sand up where Russ is would have been hot so not going to make it easy either. A winch gets put on my cars nowadays as easier to bury a tyre or use an extension strap, Maxtrax are good as long as you don't bury the car to it's chassis before trying to use them.

it sucks
Yep it sucks to get stuck in the heat, I have been going to steep point since 1981, even before there was a ranger there (19 to Steep and another 30+ into the causeway towing my boat), sometimes there was a guy sitting on top of the cliff over the washing machine / the point and the game chair and all he done was shoot the big sharks with an old .303 rifle so they didn't tax every fish about to be landed, the track back then was so bad it wasn't a matter if you got bogged but when, I remember going in and it took 5 hours to go that last 20km The thermometor on the dash was on 42 to 45 degrees, I spent 5 Xmas's up there - the hotter the weather the hotter the fishing was, I think the only winches back then were PTO winches..
(My dad caught the Australian record Amberjack there, we were members of the now defunked Marmion fishing club)

Done that badly
When I was up in karratha my neighbour told me about how beautiful Cowrie Cove was, and how to get there.
What I (nor anyone else) didnt know was adjacent to the track there is mud (as the tide can flood that area) and the Army up there had a exercise in freeing a APC that they bogged on purpuse. That made the whole area pretty messed up. I saw a huge puddle in the middle of the road and thought I would go to the right side to avoid it, straight into the APC created hole. Instantly sank to the axle on the drivers side and pitched on a ankle.
A lot off digging in stinky mud, tree btanches and stone, and the mentioned neighbout ( Nuts, everone up there knows who that is) came out with his f150 and we somehow got it out.
I was covered from head to toe in black mud.
I never went back there either!!
