2016 AFL Draft

So now we turn to the draft where the fortunes of a club can be made (The Bont) or broken (Masten).

Gold Coast have picks 4, 6, 8 and 10 which would normally work in West Coast’s favour as they’d be looking to draft by position and not necessarily the best player at that pick but they are chasing quality mids after losing O’Meara and Prestia which is also our area of need with our pick 12.

I have a feeling that West Coast are going to pull a big surprise and draft Powell-Pepper to add some grunt to our midfield and learn under the tutelage of Priddis and Mitchell. It is highly likely that we’ll have to use pick 34 to match a bid on Waterman.

Word is that Freo are chasing Petrevski-Seton and that they are confident he will still be available at pick 7 but if Tim English is available then surely they take him.

Randall the last comment was in regard to you having a stiffy after the draft and freo picking up a couple of good ones...

Hence you not rolling out of bed...

 I think freo have done

Mon, 2016-11-28 06:38

I think freo have done exceptionally well in the trade nd only time will tell for the draft.  Logue appears to be a very good pickup but i am surprised they didnt go for young ruck talent first.  They did pick up darcy who was reportedly the best tap ruckman available and is already a big solid kid. Perhaps that was their strategy if logue made it to pick 8.

Couple of new faces at Freo from the rookie draft, plus rerookied Brady Grey, west coast got Petrie, Mzungu went to GWS and Silvagni went to Carlton.

Tue, 2016-11-29 11:09

Have west coast recently employed a former Freo recruiting manager?

First Jetta, then Mitchell, now Petrie!  Has all the hallmarks of anthony, gumbleton, and sylvia

I am saying lots of old legs

Tue, 2016-11-29 16:10

I am saying lots of old legs in those three players, all of whom are past their best (certainly mitchell is still close to his best).  Not sure what value you'll get out of petrie.  He aint a ruckman and at best could be described only as a backup to kennedy.  Jetta is a flop.  Mitchell is the same type of player as shirley temple.  Not really sure what tbe eagles hope to achieve out of the trade / drafting this year.

Tue, 2016-11-29 18:15

My first thought was that Petrie will be a squad player really to fill the void should someone get injured but...

With Vardy being a forward first and ruck second I am now thinking that Simmo may play Vardy primarily through the ruck but also up forward and play Petrie primarily as forward and play Darling higher up the ground (where he won't poop his pants) or even through the middle. With the return of NicNat, Vardy can then then move a role primarily up forward and Petrie goes out of the side and Darling continues to play high and run through the middle.

I think Mitchell was a great move -

Tue, 2016-11-29 19:15

im guessing he will still average more possessions than most midfielders over the course of the season, and he will be efficient at it. Not convinced we need Drew - there were a couple of other young players we should have had a look at.

Absolutely Wayne, hanging out for some preseason games to have a squiz at the newbies. All of them too, doesn't look like a dud between them.
